  1. SharePoint Online service administrators should also be allowed to run the SharePoint Hybrid picker, not just the O365 global admin

In large IT organizations, especially organizations that already use Office 365 applications, often the O365 global admin is a different team or admin than the SharePoint Online team or admin. The SharePoint Online admin team who would have the SharePoint Online service administrator role, but not necessary the entire O365 tenant global admin role, should be able to run the SharePoint Online Hybrid picker as well as the O365 global admin.

  2. Add the ability to schedule a migration to the SharePoint Migration Tool

Pretty much as per the title - add the functionality to create a migration job, and have it start at a particular time of day, pause when required, and then continue. The SPMT can use a lot of resource on the device it's installed on, and consumes bandwidth, so have it start after working hours, pause for the next day, and then continue, all automatically, would be very useful.

  3. reduce/control SharePoint Migration Tool memory and disk index usage to under 2GB

The current 2.1 release of the SharePoint Migration Tool balloons to occupy a huge amount of memory and disk space when scanning millions of files. I find this unnecessary for a program that is essentially creating a catalog of files.

After scanning 15 million files, memory usage is at 12 GB and the list.dat file is 45 GB.

  4. SharePoint Migration Tool: Excluding paths

A useful addition to the SharePoint Migration Tool would be to support the option for excluding paths in a file share to SharePoint migration scenario. It would be very useful to put an exclude symbol "-" in front of a mapping while building the .csv. In this way you are able to migrate the only what you really need. Example: a library with 50 folders and you need 48 of them. In the current version you migratie everything and in a post migration step you need to manually find and delete these 2 folders. Or I need to add 48…

  5. Allow migration of Library structure but not take content. Popular request from customers

Third party tools such as ShareGate and Metalogix allows the customer to migrate libraries with an option (setting) to leave behind the content. This is very common request from our customers needing to cleanup sites/content before migration but allows the migration of site structure. I have been asked if this is possible many time and I can only recomment using a 3rd party tool. This would be a great addition to our migration tool.

  6. Don't immediately begin migration of files upon resuming a scan only session

Don't immediately begin migration of files upon resuming a scan only session. I had a scan only session running for 175 shares that crashed the SPMT. Upon restarting and resuming the migration, the tool began actually migrating the files when I only wanted to scan them.

  7. SharePoint migration tool and Teams

When migrating from server file shares in to SharePoint Online using the SharePoint migration tool, currently you can only choose the root folder of a document library and not the libraries belonging to ,for example, Teams channels. This means that you have to migrate in the folders and files and then use a separate method (SharePoint move or move in File Explore after a sync) to move these to respective Teams channel libraries.

Please develop the tool so that you can select Teams channels libraries/document sites as the destination and not just the root library.

While our integration with Microsoft Teams and Groups in the SharePoint Migration tool is not fully complete. You Should be able to point the tool to Any existing Teams or Group connected team site to migrate content into it. We understand this is not optimal but for the moment you can use the CSV/JSON approach to point it to folder mapping to different teams channels.

  8. File with empty date created metadata not migrating to SharePoint Online

While migrating from file share to SPO using SPMT, if any file "Date Created" metadata is empty, migration tools throwing error "Scan File Failure:The item created time or modified time is not supported".

I would suggest in this scenario, if "Date Created" is empty it should replace with "Data Modified" metadata and vice versa after migration time.

  9. Support SAML auth on SharePoint 2019 modern OneDrive Sync client

Our goal is to enable Extranet connectivity for SharePoint 2019 with support for the OneDrive Synchronization client (also known as the Next Generation Synch Client - NGSC).

During our investigation we found that, while the NGSC worked successfully with NTLM authentication worked, it did not work with SAML claims authentication.

SharePoint 2019 supports the use of SAML 1.1 but the NGSC does not. The product group is investigating the possibility of adding that feature but currently there is no ETA.
    During our call with MS Support we verified that the NGSC does not even pass cookies;
    However when we are…

  10. permission

SharePoint Migration tool does not migration Full permission from File share to "Full Control" permission level in SharePoint Online. The mapping of Full permission to contribute is not a correct scenario because it does not provide Share folder permissions. This is a serious flaw. We hope there is a workaround or fix very soon.

  13. copy path

"Copy path" making it possible to copy the path to a point in the file structure would help the organisation to learn "what to find where" by pointing at exact not-manually-entered locations.

It would decrease the tendency of the structure to become a "write-only-memory" with increasing size and time.

  14. SharePoint Migration Tool Reports

From what I see the SharePoint Migration Tool doesn't allow to do a report on existing sources before migrating. The relevant reports should be placed on all support data sources including file share and SharePoint 2013.

What we important for the report to return:

    • List of files and folders and all related permissions

    • Total volume of information and if possible volume of information per folder/file

    • Existence of duplicate files (nice to have)

    • etc

This would be identical to what other solutions already do (Sharegate, Quest, etc)

    Thanks

  15. Add Yammer to an existing SharePoint Online

We are using the SharePoint Online created by Teams and all other cool Apps like Planner, Flow and One Note. However, in order to use also Yammer we currently need to create a new Yammer group (that creates a new SharePoint and so on).

It would be great if from one O365 Group you could manage ALL apps, regardless where this group was created from. This would enable us to manage our SharePoint integration with Yammer seamlessly.

  16. SharePoint Migration Tool Migration Support for Lists With Lookup Fields

Currently, when migrating a list with a lookup field using the SharePoint Migration Tool 2.0, a failure occurs stating that the list with the GUID cannot be found. The dependency lists were migrated successfully, however, when migrating the list with the lookup fields, it is looking for a list with a GUID that doesn't exist. When the dependency lists are migrated over, they get new GUIDs.

  17. Hybrid Taxonomy PowerShell modern authentication support

The PowerShell cmdlets for copying Taxonomy Groups and Content Types (Copy-SPTaxonomyGroups, Copy-SPContentTypes) only support passing credentials in a legacy method, this blocks copying these items to SPO if you have conditional access (or have disabled legacy auth) enforced for your tenant.

  19. Local Storage Path

One of the base requirements for the migration tool is 150G of available space or an SSD. Many of the organizations we support have relatively small C drives though plenty of storage on other attached storage. The migration tool seems to error out if the C drive has < 150G of available space. Please allow the admin performing the migration to specify where the migration tool can obtain it required space.
