Assign metadata to files added to document library using MS migration tool
The current migration tool works well in transferring metadata already attached to the files (date/time, last user, etc.). There is currently no way to assign metadata required in the destination library to the files during migration, and the migration tool also ignores any default metadata assigned to the destination library (those values added automatically when files are added). You have to either update the values manually or use another tool like PowerShell.

"and the migration tool also ignores any default metadata assigned to the destination library " if this is not available, to be honest, the tool will not help for user adoption in SharePoint. Metadata is "the key!" to success, so please implement the support of this feature.

Agree this is a problem. We are migrating a customer's file shares to SharePoint and we wanted to automatically apply metadata to those documents using column default values. To our surprise this didnt work on documents migrated with the tool. I attempted adding the columns and their default values after the migration has completed but it made no difference.
