Open Source the SharePoint Migration Tool
You will get some interesting features from the community. Also stop SharePoint customers from paying tons of money for migrations

PowerShell support is now available for SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT). Customers should be able to leverage PowerShell cmdlets to extend migration activities in their own custom migration logic.
Link to the PowerShell cmdlets @ docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointmigratio..

The docs.microsoft.com documentation is not keeping up with the changes that have been made to the module.
I strongly agree that the module should be open sourced. Given the existence of the open source PNP modules, I would think that the SPMT module would benefit greatly from community contributions as well as the issue tracking and release management that comes along with Github.

would be also nice to have an API in addition to PowerShell, to be able to use this application in a form of NuGet package inside of other apps, just have 2 versions - app with PS and NuGet with API

Definitely vote for this step! A lot of advantages, both for Microsoft (with contributions), and for community (ability to create tools, based on Migration Tool for their customers).
