  1. Support SharePoint Online to SharePoint Online Migrations in the SharePoint Migration Tool

A very useful addition to the SharePoint Migration Tool from Microsoft would be support for SharePoint Online to SharePoint Online migrations. There are many scenarios where this is commonly needed for some customers who must restructure or realign and be able to migrate from one area of SharePoint Online to another. Just in general as well this would be a handy option to have.

Could this please be considered as a future improvement to the SharePoint Migration Tool including support with bulk migrations for SharePoint Online as a source. Thanks.

Thank you for bringing this suggestion to our attention. While the SharePoint migration investments have been focused on helping the on-prem customer transition to OneDrive and SharePoint in Office 365 using the SharePoint migration tool, we acknowledge that there are additional scenarios like the ones explained in this suggestion that are not covered yet. We are currently considering various options to solve those scenarios, but we cannot commit to anything at this point. Please continue bringing great suggestions to our attention like this one.

  2. migrate SharePoint 2016 to O365

We have a few SharePoint 2016 sites that we would like to have migrated to Office365 but I'm not able to find an easy way to do this. I tried to save list as template to get some of the content there but the data didn't import correctly. There needs to be a way to migrate SharePoint 2016 to O365 fully.

Thank you for providing feedback. We do have in the plans to bring support for SharePoint 2016 as a source in the SharePoint Migration tool. While we can’t commit to a timeline right now we are working on enabling the SharePoint 2010 first then move on to 2016 based on current feedback.

  3. Support TargetListRelativePath in SharePoint Migration Tool UI

It would save us a lot of time and hassle if we could specify the target folder in the UI instead of having to export and edit the JSON file to do it.

  5. Allow migration of Library structure but not take content. Popular request from customers

Third party tools such as ShareGate and Metalogix allows the customer to migrate libraries with an option (setting) to leave behind the content. This is very common request from our customers needing to cleanup sites/content before migration but allows the migration of site structure. I have been asked if this is possible many time and I can only recomment using a 3rd party tool. This would be a great addition to our migration tool.

  6. Include timebased information like CreationDate,ModifiedDate and LastAccessedDate in the scan reports

Include timebased information like CreationDate,ModifiedDate and LastAccessedDate in the scan reports to gain insights on data in fileshares or SharePoint that might require archiving or disposition opposed to migration. By including this in the reports, these can be used for further processing.

  7. SharePoint Migration Tool: Excluding paths

A useful addition to the SharePoint Migration Tool would be to support the option for excluding paths in a file share to SharePoint migration scenario. It would be very useful to put an exclude symbol "-" in front of a mapping while building the .csv. In this way you are able to migrate the only what you really need. Example: a library with 50 folders and you need 48 of them. In the current version you migratie everything and in a post migration step you need to manually find and delete these 2 folders. Or I need to add 48…

  8. SharePoint Migration Batches just like Exchange Migration Batches

Exchange Online provides an Online interface, in the Exchange Admin Center, to run, manage and track mailbox migrations. In it you define endpoints and upload (CSV) migration batches. The status of these batches, which run unattended, is then viewable from the Exchange Admin Center no matter from where you are. This is vastly superior to the way the SharePoint Migration Tool currently works, as installed on a desktop client.

With regards to defining a SharePoint Migration endpoint on-premises, from the SharePoint Admin Center, please consider the Azure AD Application Proxy scenario, where you can download a black-box installer which you…

  9. Assign metadata to files added to document library using MS migration tool

The current migration tool works well in transferring metadata already attached to the files (date/time, last user, etc.). There is currently no way to assign metadata required in the destination library to the files during migration, and the migration tool also ignores any default metadata assigned to the destination library (those values added automatically when files are added). You have to either update the values manually or use another tool like PowerShell.

  10. Please make the output of Start-SPMTMigration an object

The output of Start-SPMTMigration is in sentence form, and while you can capture it, you still have to parse it, which is exactly what you're NOT supposed to have to do in PowerShell.

Instead the Output of Start-SPMTMigration should be something like this
    GUID Status Reason
    ----- ------ --------
    c3cc7804-7164-4a2b-8996-7e51f319dea9 Passed
efd127ce-68f4-4d85-960d-5384ba561bef Failed The Target Site <URL> does not exist

I mean, you still have to parse the Reason, if you want, but at least you have fewer hoops to jump through just to remove tasks that are destined to fail from your migration.

PowerShell support is now available for SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT). Customers should be able to leverage PowerShell cmdlets to extend migration activities in their own custom migration logic.

Link to the PowerShell cmdlets @ docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointmigratio..

Please continue to provide feedback and post new uservoice ideas

  12. SharePoint Migration Tool Migration Support for Lists With Lookup Fields

Currently, when migrating a list with a lookup field using the SharePoint Migration Tool 2.0, a failure occurs stating that the list with the GUID cannot be found. The dependency lists were migrated successfully, however, when migrating the list with the lookup fields, it is looking for a list with a GUID that doesn't exist. When the dependency lists are migrated over, they get new GUIDs.

  15. Offline Mode for SharePoint Migration Tool

Offline Mode for SharePoint Migration Tool - The SharePoint Migration Tool requires the end user to enter in credentials to an O365 instance. In my scenario, we are currently blocked from accessing login gateways related to O365, but are currently working towards migrating to O365 as a solution. It would be nice to get the insights that the SharePoint Migration Tool provides in its reports without a set of O365 credentials. I.E. if credentials to O365 are not provided, place the Migration Tool into a REPORT ONLY state.

  16. Add the ability to schedule a migration to the SharePoint Migration Tool

Pretty much as per the title - add the functionality to create a migration job, and have it start at a particular time of day, pause when required, and then continue. The SPMT can use a lot of resource on the device it's installed on, and consumes bandwidth, so have it start after working hours, pause for the next day, and then continue, all automatically, would be very useful.

  17. Add estimated time remaining to Migration Tool

For the most part the migration tool is good and easy to use, however, if possible it would be great to have the estimated time remaining displayed on the app just to give an idea of how long it will take

While our integration with Microsoft Teams and Groups in the SharePoint Migration tool is not fully complete. You Should be able to point the tool to Any existing Teams or Group connected team site to migrate content into it. I would love to understand more what are the specific parts you would like to see in the tool

  19. Increase the file upload limit

Currently uploading files to onedrive is limited to 15GB.
With an increasing file size, especially with 4k content, the 15GB limit causes some inconveniences
    Please
Increase limit of the uploaded file to 50GB or the highest possible level

  20. Easier CSV input for Sharepoint Migration Tool

the current CSV file format is lacking 'individual' files option that will prevent restructuring the data.

What I would like to see is a totally revised and more simple CSV input format:
"[full source path of file]","[full target path of file]"
Who ever came up with this rediculous 6 column format, as it is totally unneccesary, bloated and not suitable for migrations targetting specific source files and there verious intended target locations?
And really I (as a user) don't care if something is a share, site, library or folder. I just want to supply the full URL/path for both source and…
