For organisations that would like to use Communication site as their intranet it would be great if you could provision the root site as a Communication site, rather than a team site with a redirect to the communication site.

As per the Message Center Post MC187289 we have started to roll out Site Swap. This is a new PowerShell cmdlet Invoke-SPOSiteSwap that will enable you to swap your existing root site with a Communication Site. For further information please refer to https://aka.ms/SiteSwap.

Categorize and filter news articles on new publishing site
Ability to select category (or multiple) for a news article when you create it. Plus the ability to filter the news widget by category.

Today you can add metadata to modern pages and news. Also the news web part currently supports filtering news by metadata, as long as the source of the content is the current site.
We’re working to enable this same filtering across sites right now.
For customers who are trying to completely modernize their large SharePoint implementations, it should be possible to convert an existing site collection to use the communication site template.
It can simply be a powershell command that applies all the features/etc. it needs.
It doesn't need to change existing content, just apply the styles and create the typical landing page for a communication site.

Office 365 Connectors within SharePoint are only available for use within group-connected SharePoint team sites, according to https://support.office.com/en-ie/article/use-the-connector-web-part-db0756aa-f78f-4b74-8b19-be5dca0420e1.
Please add support for using Office 365 Connectors also in Communication Sites. For example, I would like to display data from outside by using an RSS Feed connector on a Communication Site page.221 votes

We’ve reduced the height of the hero web part when in full width columns, but still maintain as much of the aspect ratio as possible. On a very large monitor this can still make the hero quite tall. Authors could also drag hero our of the full width column, into a one column layout (with gutters) , which significantly reduces the height. How would you imagine it should work differently in the full width, or is moving to a one column layout the right choice for reduced height? Thanks!
Will the functionality to like/rate pages be added to the modern pages? This is obviously available on classic pages and would be a great addition to the modern pages especially within the Communication sites.161 votes
SharePoint site news articles are great with the embedded comments section. I would ask and recommend that there be some sort of notifier/alert to the original comment poster when someone else responds to it. This would help keep conversations going forward. It's rather hard to find your original comments when there are many comment posts.138 votes

Add the "Rating Settings" to document libraries in Communication Sites. This exists on other doc libraries from other site templates. This would allow users to rate/like content and we could add a section of "most like documents" etc to the page.109 votes
I like the new Comments feature on Comm. Sites.
But there are use cases, where you need to create plenty of pages without comments. After publishing a new page we need to edit, disable comments and publish this page again.

Allow the option to schedule posts for the News Section.
Allow the option to change the published date for posts in the News Section (e.g. if you need to back-date something).
Allow the option to change the publishing user on News posts (e.g if you're publishing something on behalf of a team member, but want their name displayed, not yours)

You can now set the author of a news post (or page) to another team member with our enhancements to title area on pages that rolled out in December 2018.
Communications sites should not be created in the same managed path as Groups sites. They are not managed the same way and don't follow the same rules.

We are planning to provide a path selection mechanism in the new admin center, but until then we’ll look to at least amend the PowerShell (note that you can already set the path using PnP PowerShell – specifically, the New-PnPTenantSite cmdlet).

Saw the new feature and I love it!! But I have a few questions/requests
Is there any way to replace Microsoft and SharePoint logos at the top with those from my own organization or at least put those at the bottom.
Also can the SharePoint logo just above the header be replaced?

Highlighted Content Events do not show the event when you click on the event within highlighted content.
News events in highlighted content shows the news article that was originally posted. So why don't events?
