Calendar Events and Meetings categories and colors
It would be great to have the ability to select categories an colors where creating events and meetings, visible as well in the calendar view (calendar.aspx) and in Outlook (2016 or 365).

Please make the color categories easier to build and sync between Sharepoint and outlook as this is the best way for companies to stay on track in the dislocated workspace.

You guys are ridiculous. No recurring events... no Categories... Why even sync at this point?

I find it absurd that this functionality does not work across the Microsoft suite of products. It simply does not make sense that our group calendar categories are not synced when connecting to Outlook.

I agree. It's a strange difference that you have "Category" in the SP Calendar, while you have "Categories" in Outlook. The only field you can sync between the two is "Categories", which you first have to add as column in SP, but which is a single line text field. While the Category field in SP can be a nice, color-coded (not many easy-selectable colors though) drop-down list of categories which, in a way, matches the selectable Categories in Outlook (where you have more colors to choose from). Matching is actually done on the category name you have assigned (on both sides), which is perfect and better than matching on color I think. But it's the problem that the wrong fields are synchronised! Please make the field names and their functionality the same, so that syncing works as it should!!

Hi team, we're in 2018 now...Outlook color categories and SP color categories are not in sync ? Please do not talk about "collaboration" without this basic collaborative feature... If you're able to sync a title, a description, appointment time, what is the problem with an hexadecimal field color ? Just curious...

Just went through creating a color coded calendar - tried to sync and the colors are gone, also tried to add to a page - the colors are gone - really need to be able to keep the color coding not matter what or how we use the calendar.

PLEASE! We just went through the process of color coding a SharePoint calendar using overlays for different categories, but cannot find a way to print the calendar with the colors. If we print from SharePoint the events don't align with the dates and if we sync to Outlook we lose the colors!

Everyone in our division would absolutely love this feature and to be honest I can't figure out why this has not been implemented yet.

sounds like a good idea, if it isn't to cumbersome to configure and maintain

Users at my company have been asking for this since SharePoint 2007. I know you can do overlays, but that is much too time-consuming and complex to set up at the scale at which we would like to make this available.
(PS - I raised this to the SharePoint development team during Ignite and heard that several other people want this but have been using JavaScript and other workarounds to make it happen. It will make a lot of people happy!) -

This is very needed.

It would not only be great, it is a big handicap that I color code calendar items in Outook, then these colors do not appear in the SharePoint calendar: to have a sync function should include syncing the categories' colors ASAP. Thanks for putting it high on the list ...

I manage a SharePoint site for a project and many team members are wanting to see SharePoint colors within outlook after they sync the SharePoint calendar (to overlay that calendar with their personal Outlook calendar). This would be a huge value-add if Microsoft could accomplish this. Thank you.

I second this. Currently we are having to rely on bad 3rd party web parts to accomplish this. Calendars in Sharepoint need a complete overhaul and redesign, with an easily printable view, and a rolling calendar view. as well as color coding by category. We could almost eliminate overlays
