Custom restrictions of file types that user can upload to a document library.
SharePoint Online. We really need to set some restrictions of file types that user can upload to a document library.
For example, to deny upload file with extension .bmp and .tiff.

Thanks for your feedback. We were wondering if you asked for this control only on Team sites or OneDrive for Business as well?

Important part of security especially with ransomware spreading and usability given push for OneDrive client to sync desktop, documents, etc. In some situations, you may not want to block Globally but you may want to block on particular sites only or vice versa only allow file types on some libraries.

I'm really surprised this hasn't been implemented already. It would lead to a far better end user experience to be able to block at the point of upload rather than handling after the event.
One more vote.

We need to block firmware and malware common extensions. It is especially dangerous when users are syncing their OneDrive/SP folders and can upload files to the tenant without knowing it.

I Would like to have this function available in SharePoint Online.

I think it would be important to be transversal to Office 365, including OneDrive and Sharepoint. If possible it would be great to be able to apply it by group permission!

This would be helpful across the board. OneDrive, Teams and SharePoint. I don't know about anyone else but we're trying to get a handle on where people are saving software exe in the org.

This would be very useful with SharePoint Online, Teams and OnDrive for Business.
When will this feature be added? i see it's been requested since early 2016!

Support is required for managing the request to restrict the upload of extensions to SharePoint Online lists and libraries.

I also would love to be able to redirect users to use Stream when they try to upload video content into any SharePoint site location (including Teams group sites)

Please add this option in SharePoint Online as it's very helpful to be able to restrict media files like .mp4, .mov, etc and also limiting or restricting file size which we currently require.

I would like to restrict an upload to types and sizes for file uploads to a list item. For example only images with a max. of 2 MB etc.

Please provide a solution for blocking specific file types in SharePoint team sites.
Also the OneDrive is not effective. Users are still able to upload file types that have been added to the blocked list.

Restricting file types is valuable for many of us on a per library basis to prevent editable documents from being posted. It can also be used to prevent users from posting files types that perhaps they are the only ones who are able to edit (not by permission settings, but with the actual software used to edit). I don't see this as necessary in OneDrive...but definitely see it as incredibly valuable for SharePoint...and Teams in turn since it relies on SharePoint on the backend.

How long we need to wait for this?

Hello...we're looking for the same functionality and I'm also shocked that this is not currently an option. There is a way to do this for OneDrive but not for Sharepoint or Teams. We're looking to prevent upload of media files (mp3, avi, etc.).
