List and Library Column Widths
In document libraries and in the List View it would be great if the column widths and text size could be adjustable. This would make larger lists a bit more readable to the user rather that letting Sharepoint decide the column width.

This works in modern lists and libraries.

just saw this: Custom column content widths can be saved for each user. Each user will be able to set a custom width for each column in a view, and have those settings persist for multiple sessions. Columns widths are now also stored as part of the view property – users can persist their column widths permanently by saving a view with the column customizations.

NOT DONE. Make this functionality permanent!

The current functionality is not adequate and is a real time-waster, completely going against the purpose of SharePoint online. Please keep working on this.

Where is the "how to" of adjusting the column widths? I can "hover" over the column name, and see a small gray vertical divider line, but it cannot be moved horizontly to resize the column width. Is there a way to adjust the column width by number of characters? For example, for a Column Width entitled "Year" can we add in a column width of 4-6 characters? or does the system automatically know how to do this?

created a related User Voice to make it more discoverable, since most people don't realize you can resize. pls see: https://sharepoint.uservoice.com/forums/329214-sites-and-collaboration/suggestions/33079627-column-width-resizng-should-be-more-discoverable

Agreed. This is totally not done. I need to be able persistently/permanently set the width of a column. Having to reset it every time the library is accessed is quite pointless.

Agree, it's not done until its persistent.

If it's not persistent, it's not done.

Still not fixed, what in the world...

Agreed - this is NOT DONE.

This is still an issue. Please let us change the column width _and_ font size with persistence. I'm trying to migrate my users from a locally-saved excel file to a sharepoint list. Having 30% of the columns offscreen is NOT helping!!
Additionally; stop defining a special, extra-wide column width for "Title".

Hi Microsoft, just adding to noise here to reflect that this is NOT DONE. As people mentioned, there's no point of adjusting it if you it's not permanent!!!

No, it's not done. This seems to be a simple ask. The Title column is WAAAAY too long and cannot be customized or hidden.

Not done a year after you said it was...

One of the most annoying 'missing' basic feature.

This is NOT done. The single title column is modern list is way too wide, taking all the screen real estate.

Sadly, this is not done. The default title column is always way too wide taking all the screen real estate vs other columns. Plus it cannot be adjusted :( When other columns are adjusted, they are not saved for each views.

Definitely not done such that a user can permanently adjust a column width. This is a pretty basic concept. Please elevate this request!

Since MS closed this suggestion, upvote this one (not mine) that specifies the change should be persistent:
