Dynamic Column width for default Title column in SharePoint List
Currently the default "Title" column does not have an adjustable width in the new modern SharePoint view only, classic view is unaffected.
So if the column contains 1 row and the cell contains very little text the column width will not adjust to fit the width of the text and leave a large empty space, pushing adjacent columns to the right off the screen.

Thanks for your feedback! We’re happy to report that your suggestion is now part of persistent column widths. The column width can be saved as part of the view and each user’s preference will be saved in local storage.

Agreed; adjusting the column width would result in a better use of the real estate and a better user experience.

Can Microsoft give us the ability to set custom field widths in the Create a View section? We can decide the order of columns, why not add another column to set length for the view?

Column width yet can't easily be changed. An option is to let the column text wrap and height auto grow:
Especially helpful for Document Library filename columns.
{
"elmType": "span",
"txtContent": "@currentField",
"style": {
"white-space" : "normal",
"height" : "auto",
"padding-top" : "8px"
}

This feature is very much required. We have had users going back to Classic view since the entire file name is not visible. Though adjustable, it does not persist after a refresh.

I have searched for "Office 365 document library change column width" and found https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_sharepoint/office-365-document-library-view/f0ce1c1d-928c-4baa-b9d4-d9d63b855eb5
It seems that changes in column width should be persisted over sessions OR at least calculated based on area and length of field content.
It is not friendly to force user to drag open name (or other field) each visit to see contents.
Thank you for your consideration.

Please restore the functionality to display the entire information of an name / title columns. I can't move forward when this basic functionality is missing.

HI, I would also like to point out that this other Uservoice issue is very misleading: https://sharepoint.uservoice.com/forums/329214-sites-and-collaboration/suggestions/13352412-list-and-library-column-widths
Please re-open or mark as a duplicate of this one.

WHAT?!? How come this BASIC feature is not yet functional?

Impact of this is the applications built on this (the Portfolio and Project Management solution) compares poorly to competitive solutions (e.g. Service Now ITBM-PPM).
It appears the sharepoint solution suite in MS is slowly dying (or at least going backwards in functionality) hence am finding the need tobe very cautious about investing in applications using this framework.

I can’t believe that something as basic, essential and supported as this, hasn’t been sorted yet. Then again, there are many broken things in SharePoint that require attention…

To be sure, the "durable column resizing" merged topic is a bit broader than "dynamic column width for default Title column". The ability to set--or dynamically adjust--the default width for *any* column and have it stick summarizes the two requests, I think.
One thing I have noticed recently as well: if you resize the name column (for instance) to be larger, it doesn't actually show any more of the filename. The "..." remains at the same place in the filename, regardless how large you make the column.

As requested https://sharepoint.uservoice.com/forums/329214-sites-and-collaboration/suggestions/13352412-list-and-library-column-widths - PLEASE allow us to adjust. The Title and Name columns are almost always too wide using up all the real estate.

I'm in agreement with Adrienne's post, the column width's in the new modern view can't be modified. I'm working with a list and one of the columns has a header with three characters and the data in the columns is only four characters however the column width is four times wider than it needs to be. We have had to revert back to the classic view.

I'm surprised that this isn't already a standard feature. It gets my vote

Agree! The "name with link to item" is too wide.

Same than Brian : in fact, it's adjustable but it's not saved when you live the page
