missing search box in modern lists
On the classic sharepoint there is a search box that is very helpful. Please add that to the new look.

Search in SharePoint is contextual, so if you are viewing a list or document library, the search is scoped to that list or library.

Actually..... I discovered the other day that if you are on a view of a list or library, and you use the search box in the left nav, it will automatically scope the search to the list/library you are in!!

Agreed!! We use a SharePoint Discussion Board as an FAQ with several hundred articles. The inability to search that list makes the FAQ worthless. Using the Site Search (upper right) is not practical... users tend to get way too many hits as it searches the entire site.

Today - in modern list, the search box that normally pops up on the right hand side of the screen, when you go to filter a column from the header of the / any column is not appearing - this is a real pain for our team.
Can it please be brought back?
Scrolling through rows of items to search for the one we are looking for is a real pain.
The search box we could type the first 3 or 4 characters, and it would narrow down options for a quick find.... -

Yes, this is very helpful especially for lists with lots of content. Please bring this back. We used this all the time in the old design and it is missing badly.

When I use the search box at the top left of a modern list, I get responses for ANY field in the list. This includes the created by and modified by fields. Is there a way I can exclude particular fields from the list search?

Hi, If you use the search box in the top left of your screen it works. Just ignore the suggestions that pop up and press 'return' - or you can click 'see more results' at the bottom of the suggestions box. It's quite strange behaviour (our UX friends will have lots to say) but at least it gets you a filtered list.
