New Experience - Drag & Drop into meta-data grouping from desktop
I have a document library with meta-data associated and they appear in a grouped by view. This meta-data field is mandatory.
Currently when i drag & drop from the desktop, it creates the list item without associating the meta-data. I must then perform another action to tag the content & check the file in. Very annoying & time consuming.
It would be great if i could drag & drop directly to the grouping of existing content and SharePoint would automaticaly set the values for this new item based on where i'm drag & dropping.
This would save users a great deal of time when dealing with structured content & help with classification and adoption.
Agree. Also the feature to drag and drop to a filtered view and auto apply the filtered values as metadata would be very user friendly as well.
Seems like Microsoft chooses to ignore this.... Issue is still valid now (may 2020)
I have submitted this again, please vote for that one: https://sharepoint.uservoice.com/forums/329214-sites-and-collaboration/suggestions/40355872-drag-and-drop-files-to-grouped-library-view
Maybe MS will take action now....
This used to work! When you drag & drop the file in the correct "group by" view, the file takes over the same Meta-data. This was very handy and made the Meta-Data very user friendly. Now it's the opposite: very annoying and time consuming.
Agreed. We have to disable drag & drop when fields are required. It is totally not intuitive for end users - they do not realize that a drag and drop puts the file in the library as checked-out and no one else can see the file. They get no indication that it happened. So we just disable it because it is useless.
