Ability to set 'Tile' or 'List' as a default view
Please allow libraries to be show in List view by default.
I don't mind tile view, but when I got to all the trouble of setting up columns and mandatory fields and it displays tiles by default for each new user, all the power of the document library metadata is hidden.
This happened for me when the library contained only PDFs

This feature is currently in progress and we are targeting summer 2020 for the release date

I can understand that Covid threw everyone for a loop. However if you were targeting summer 2020 for a release, the admin comment should be updated to reflect the current target as we're a full year out from that comment.

ability to set Gallery view as the default should also be included in this feature request.

What would be better is the ability to set the default LAYOUT on each view. This way you can create one view as List and another as Tiles. I need multiple views with different filters set to the Tiles layout.

And please enable different views at folder/document level - it would be great to be able to use a default tile view for folders, then automatically switch to a list view for the folder document content, especially where the number of documents in a folder is large.

YES! Thanks, SharePoint Sites Team.
I verified that this works in List View Web Parts on modern pages in my SharePoint in M365 tenant. That's exactly what I needed.

Thanks @UXBrian. I tested and it is working! Just change the default view to "Tiles" and then "Save view as" and keep the same name, so the current view is replaced.
@Microsoft this topic is still with the status "In the plans", but seems to be already implemented in some way -

Thank you Microsoft Support. This works. If anyone else finds this post here are the steps to make tiles the default view on SharePoint Modern Pages.
1. Create list
2. Save list as another view
3. apply JSON using tileProps
4. Switch to Tile view
5. Save view As
6. Overwrite the current list.
7. Your default view will now be Tiles. -

What I don't understand is why this works on one of my hub sites but not another. Is there something in a setting someplace that allows it to work?

I need this option as it allows so much more usability in the product and features.

I'd like the option to default all SharePoint folders as a 'tile' view. This would help my workflow for viewing folders and pictures in the folders. It would remove a repetitive step when moving through folders over the course of my day. - Thanks

Hello, Headed into Fall. Any word on this option? It's been asked about for a while

This need to happen already. This shouldn't take that long.

Does anyone know what item on the roadmap corresponds to this addition that is targeted for Summer of 2020?

One hopes this default view can also be applied within the List Web Part? It defeats the purpose of offering the ability to customize a list view using JSON but not make that a default view for a user visiting the page or list. It's just bad UX.

has this happened yet?

Please could you advise the Roadmap item that this feature is connected to so we can track it.
So important to be able to define Tiles as default for a view or in a list webpart.

Can we select Tiles view from webpart setting now? Is it released?

Another great example using hover cards by @chriskent was released this week - and again it's useless unless we can set tile view as default.
Can we get an update please??
