Ability to set 'Tile' or 'List' as a default view
Please allow libraries to be show in List view by default.
I don't mind tile view, but when I got to all the trouble of setting up columns and mandatory fields and it displays tiles by default for each new user, all the power of the document library metadata is hidden.
This happened for me when the library contained only PDFs
This feature is currently in progress and we are targeting summer 2020 for the release date
Does anyone know what item on the roadmap corresponds to this addition that is targeted for Summer of 2020?
One hopes this default view can also be applied within the List Web Part? It defeats the purpose of offering the ability to customize a list view using JSON but not make that a default view for a user visiting the page or list. It's just bad UX.
has this happened yet?

Please could you advise the Roadmap item that this feature is connected to so we can track it.
So important to be able to define Tiles as default for a view or in a list webpart.
Can we select Tiles view from webpart setting now? Is it released?
Another great example using hover cards by @chriskent was released this week - and again it's useless unless we can set tile view as default.
Can we get an update please??
Would definitely be useful for modern document libraries where images are being stored (and I don't need anyone telling me I should use a picture library - there are reasons why I need to put some photos in a doc library).
How far has development progressed with this feature? Can you show a reference link on the Microsoft o365 roadmap ?

This should be easy. At least, allow adding a custom parameter to the view URL to force the tiles/thumbnail mode

Need to be able to set default for list esp. in Picture Library. Most users are not savvy enough even after training users to select List in order to have access to the metadata, and quick edit.

This gets even more necessary with the introduction of Tiles in a list. The ability to create a custom Tile based on the list data is powerful and could have a lot of use cases; however, not having the control on defining 'Tile' as the default view makes it pointless. I do not have the ability to tell every individual person to change the view so they can see the data in the way I want them to.
As a Site Administrator, I need the ability to define the default view type (List, Compact, Tile), so that I can ensure all end users have the same experience when viewing the data by default.

Also allow compact list to be set as default
I loathe tiles. They take up too much real estate and don't add any value.

Being able to select the default view of Lists/Lists webparts for all users would be *extremely* useful to design the user experience - please add this option.

This issue very effectively stops me from using Tiles in solutions - there's just no guarantee that an end-user will see what I want them to see.
It's been over 3 years since this was raised - surely some movement on it is justified, given the number of votes?
When... oh... when?

Please add an Option to set a tile view after modified JSON as Default !
We should be able to set the default view type (Tiles or List).

I echo the previous comments to have the JSON-formatted tiles view able to be set as the default view for ALL users. We rolled them out and then discovered that users were seeing them in the default list view and had to change the view manually after which it worked each time. Staff just won't bother.
Has anyone successfully figured out how to add the Tiles View as the default view for "all" users? I
