Getting back Connecting with Office
I would like to get the functionality back in Office 2016 to be able to upload document templates connected to the library you are connecting. If its not planned the button in the ribbon for connecting to office don't have a meaning.

(2/2020) in the recent O365 update: we recently LOST the opportunity to "add a service" in MS Access - which means a set of SharePoint lists we've been using for 5 years can no longer be accessed by our database! this potentially ends our use of sharepoint and this system... need to hear back from you, Microsoft, right away on this.

We need this feature, too. It is very important for our users to save directly in SharePoint.

I googled "connect your document library to windows explorer in sharepoint 2016" and was eventually led to this. How is this not a option?

Hi Team,
Can develop Office 365 to allow direct upload to OneDrive web?
Our organisation is an environment where local drive space is an issue for users, especially those in a hotdesk environment in which we have many (hopefully we will go to VM one day).
At the present, you cannot save a non Office365 file eg. pdf, Jpeg, MP4 etc etc to Onedrive, without it first having to go to the local drive.
Users can save directly to a mapped network drive, so it would be great to be able to save directly to OneDrive/SharePoint etc without the utilisation of local storage.
I agree there should still be the option to sync locally to allow working offline but the ability to save directly to OneDrive\Sharepoint Web would be enormous for our business not to mention other organisations that would benefit.

What? The Connect to Office button doesn't really work? The Save As > to a SharePoint Site from an Office application is extremely important for SharePoint adoption. Are you suggesting that dragging into a library is the only option or am I misunderstanding?

I agree, this is not the same as the sync functionality - sometimes, the libraries are too large to sync and you just want to be able to easily link to the SharePoint library from within Office 2016. The "SharePoint Sites" option is still available from within Office 2016, and the Connect to Office button is still on the ribbon toolbar. All the pieces are there - please bring back this functionality!

Connect to office feature only connects to the Office 365 root collection. There is no way to configure a connection to a team site collection. The only way to save directly to a library in a team site collection is via the cached recent folders accessed. This is not user friendly as we may save to a library that is not in the cache or was not recently used.
Please allow us to connect to a chosen team site collection directly.
