Define section background color in the modern pages
Please let us define a custom background color for a Section on the page.
It would allow us to give more "rhythm" to the page content and highlight some content on the page.
For example the https://dev.office.com/ site uses a light blue "section background color" to separate the "getting started"-links from rest of the content.
Today modern pages support picking one of three colors derived from the site theme (soft, neautral, strong). We likely won’t be investing in the option to add arbitrary other colors as a section background, violating the site’s theme. For the other suggestions, please open a unique uservoice suggestion (e.g. support section background images)
Agreed with @sandra.hirsch, we would like to use an image as background in site/section as well as web part zones/columns in sections. Users will be more attracted to the image rather than plain colors.
Such a crap response from Microsoft - this is the dumbest restriction. The theme colors offered just won't work and plain white is PAINFUL on eyes. I don't get why Microsoft moved away from off white over the years. Give us a bloody colour wheel and stop being dicks about it.
Furthermore, ist would be benefitial to use an image as backgropund in section as well as web part zones / columns in sections. This ist pretty much state of the art in other content management systems and give the editor more possibilities to layout the content and make it attractive for users to read.

Would be great to be able to customise site theme colours

I like this! Give us the option to pick different colors besides the sites theme colors!
Please also add the option to change a column's background colour within a section.
Also please add option for separating the sections via vertical and horizontal border lines

It would be great if we could also add a background image to section layouts.
