Enable Download Alerts in SharePoint & OneDrive for Business
Would be great to get notification alerts when a file or files are downloaded from SharePoint or OneDrive for Business. Alerts work well for uploading or adding a file or files, deleting a file or folder etc. I understand it may be able to happen via PowerShell?.. but not sure. Have opened ticket for same and will follow up.
Download notifications for all... all for one and one for all !

Any progress with this? I can't believe such a simple feature doesn't exist.
As a user of M365, I want to know when someone else downloads a file, so I can protect documents under my influence. Currently, Sharepoint doesn't track these events, so Sharepoint cannot alert me. To get an audit of who downloaded, I need to contact Admins to provide this information.
For context, this is coming from being a user of Box.com and Dropbox.com. I love that they have alerts for all sorts of events relating to their documents, and those alerts are user controlled. My hope is MS continues to catch up, but also to continue innovating.
This is absolutely a useful function. We need to know when our clients have downloaded the files we share with them (SharePoint) in order to have proof of receipt. I also really liked the auto-delete feature in the file sharing app we used to have. These are both very useful features.
It will be great to have this feature as this is priority to have

When setting alerts for folders, please: 1) create a function wherein one can set an alert setting for all folders; and 2) create an alert setting to be notified when a file(s) is downloaded or viewed.
Ditto, my business replaced a popular file transfer solution with OneDrive, but OneDrive is geared towards sharing rather than transferring. I need to know when someone has downloaded my file. I'd also appreciate auto-housekeeping ("delete file after 1 month").
Yes, download notifications are needed, wanted and necessary. Sounds like the most obvious thing. Why is this not available from day one?

Yes, a download notification is needed, and should include the date of the download.
Would be nice to use EPS for file transmittal, as well as document sharing. For this, the ability to have a "read receipt" or "download receipt", to prove the file shared has been downloaded at the destination, is critical.
In this scenario, two-way collaboration of files isn't required, simply a way of sending large files from person to person, (maybe, by issuing a code to the recipient, that they have to type in, in order to download the file, for added security), with a receipt for delivery, and possibly IP address logging.
