Change the default language after the SharePoint site has been created
Though we can change the language settings, but once the site has been created there is no option to change its default language.

Brian Iselin - great point - some countries actually have more than one language, and this can be a real legal issue. The locale of a Sharepoint site or tenant should never override the language option of a user. No one except the administrator should ever know or worry about these unchangeable language settings.

It is hopeless that we have our Sharepoint site in German, just because we are physically in Switzerland. As an international organisation, our working language is English, we have only one German speaker out of 40 staff, and even then we are in the French part of Germany. Why German? No organisation located in the Swiss Romandie could work with this. It makes no sense for us from any direction.

Also +1
We also have this issue. We have offices spread around the world and company language is English. So, it's useless to send emails in German, only because it was set up in Germany. -

Also - the same request is on the 365 uservoice: https://office365.uservoice.com/forums/273493-office-365-admin/suggestions/34841875-change-default-language-in-sharepoint-onedrive

+1 for this change - we urgently need an update and way to fix the "default" language - it is of no use to our employees in the US, Thailand or Colombia to get some emails from Sharepoint in Swedish. If the user language preference cannot be respected across all 365 services, then there should be a way to select and change the default language.

It would be quite helpful to not be restricted by this default language, each user should be able to set their own personal language and not be restricted by a default language. Having a parent company in France that administers our site, means the default language is French. This does not help any of the users who are based in the US.
