New Communication SIte - Add Categories to News Articles

Categorize and filter news articles on new publishing site
Ability to select category (or multiple) for a news article when you create it. Plus the ability to filter the news widget by category.
Exactly like you can for events. Plus the ability to select multiple categories if you choose.

    Use case: I built a communication site that we're designing to be community-driven news curation resource where people from a lot of different business areas can share 'tech-tips' that are less focused on what you can do with a resource (SharePoint, Flow, Teams, Smartsheet, Asana, etc.) and more about how people are using it in their specific job area to add more contextual information on how to apply the resource. I want to be able to categorize the news posts and leverage those categories to map articles with category "x" are sent to approvers in group "y"

    This would really help engagement by allowing each business area to govern their own articles.

    Emerson is interested in this globally. It will be very useful, especially if there is a category for lanuage.

    Is this done or is it still being worked on?

    I know we can now add custom metadata, refer to this in highlight web part and/or add the properties web part to the page but I thought this was going to be something a bit more targeted at categorisation in particular that would work with the News web part.

    Been working on it since February. Any update? Functionality exists with Events. Should work the same way. Should be able to categorize news posts like General, Human Resources, Business Operations, etc. And be able to filter the news widget based on which page you are adding. All news can flow to home page. Only HR news in the News widget on the HR page. Please make this happen. We are going to have to roll out with a work around (like separate Yammer feed for HR) if this is not implemented.

    Hi Microsoft,
    rather than you guys working on it, it would be better idea if you can share the code either on Github or any free code sharing platform. Let public edit the code and you control the commit/build.
    Make all SPFx webparts open source!

    Any ETA on this? Seems to be in the roadmap as a June release. Only 3 days to go guys!

    I cannot wait until this feature is launched. The Highlighted Content web part has handled the need in a roundabout way, but it would be fantastic to stick with the News web part for this functionality. Thank you for prioritizing this effort!
