Enable custom columns for modern pages

Consistent with the classic "publishing" use case, would like the ability to add custom columns to modern site pages and make these columns editable in the page properties UI in the Site Pages document library.

An extension of this would allow editing of the page properties on the page itself, similar to custom page layouts on classic publishing pages.

    We allow user to submit news post at home page level and the ability to make column properties required to category based on department is a must. User must be prompted for required fields upon saving and publishing site pages.

    We now have the ability to add custom columns , but yes proving option to add page properties when editing page content is required

    This is a much needed functionality. Just to add on to the original idea, it would also be great if there was a way to force users to enter metadata for mandatory custom columns. As in, they should be prompted to fill in metadata for site pages once they click on 'Publish'.

    As you may be aware, this functionality is currently available for wiki pages.

    This totally makes sense unless we want to have a separate site for every little thing.

    This (and others) are issues that prevent/delay any new intranet rollouts. I'd love to deploy some features for my organization (which has no meaningful SP sites yet) but we are caught in a weird place between half-baked new features and soon-to-be-deprecated old ways of doing things. It is strange and disruptive, and we are being given aesthetic/design features before the features that allow us to actually build out sites.

    Would be great to have this enabled soon. We would like to use modern pages for our knowledge base as they are easy to edit. We need metadata to enable search and managed navigation.

    We told everyone in our organization that Metadata is the way to go.
    Now they wanted to create pages and tag them with Metadata and now everyone is complaining and blaming us for Microsofts inconsistency.

    The metadata is needed to be able to organize the content in the Site Pages library for "Site Pages". One will want to filter and create views on more than standard columns OOTB.

    Without the ability to tag pages with metadata, they're not being returned by search refiners; indeed, the entire underlying Sharepoint information architecture enterprises and Microsoft put so much effort into developing has been cast aside until this is resolved.
