Ability to open Quick Links items in new tab
I'd like the ability to specify whether items using the Quick Links app open in a new tab or not.
We are currently working on a plan to add this feature, but have no timeline to share at the moment.

Yes! This should definitely be an option.... I've been forced to avoid using this web part and just create my own header with links that actually open in a new window. Unfortunately, I don't get to make use of the helpful icons and options the quick links web part has.

It's kinda SCARY that this novel yet immensely useful feature has been open OVER TWO YEARS and SharePoint devs haven't even commented on it! OMG!

All the comments here are spot on, and other similar suggestions on UserVoice should be folded into this one.
The QuickLinks web part could benefit from:
* Ability to group links into categories: Put a tree structure of the current links into the Edit panel and allow users to drag and drop links among the categories
* All common protocols enabled: file:///, http(s)://, mailto:, # anchors, relative links, and also the proprietary app protocols like onenote:. Yes, even ftp://--give us the choice and we'll make sure it's safe to navigate to. Stop requiring "http" in front of everything.
* A setting to select how to render the links: As a megamenu, an accordion with collapsible groups, etc. The current formats are OK but Microsoft, you seem bent on taking up as much screen real estate as possible with the page and link styles you offer us. Let us slim things down and collapse areas so our users can navigate better.
* Control over simple colors, underlines, font sizes, styles, etc.

Same issue as this suggestion - which has more votes...
I also agree this would be very nice to have the option to open in new tab.

If you can add to this idea the fact that navigation should be able to be set to open in a new window or tab, that would be great since there are a couple of requests floating around that mention one facet or another of the ability to open something in a new window being missing. This is really a step backwards in my mind.

It's silly that this is not an option. It's surprising it is not there.
It would be a very simple option to add in the menu to create/edit a Quick Link.

I love this, voted, and looking now for the Hero webpart to react to touchscreen commands, I don't want to click on the right/left to move back/forth from my phone, why can't I swipe?
This should be for all web parts that have links, like Quick Links etc
I think that all link/button elements should have the option to open in a new window, especially if they link to external sites/content or PDFs.

Please do so!!

Yes, I completely agree - this feature existed and worked great in previous Software. Why inthe world would it not be carried forward??

Why this wouldn't be an option is a bit puzzling to be honest. It is a basic requirement.
Also to open a link on a network server (file://...) is not working anymore.
Why does Microsoft downgrade functionalities that are useful and were available in SharePoint 2007/2010? I really get the impression some Microsoft product owners have no clue for what their products are being used...

Opening a link in a new tab or window seems like very basic functionality that should be available. I prefer to be able to quickly go back to the page I was on prior to selecting a link, rather than choosing the "back" button.
It is extremely needed to be able to control quick links to open in new tabs.
+1 I really need this
The quick links web part should have an option to open the link in a new page, especially helpful for URLs
