Modern Team Sites and Communications Sites in SP Online - Would like option to use Managed or Structural Navigation
We have an existing portal with managed navigation. Team members would like to use the Modern Team Sites and the new Communication Sites, however these come with their own navigation that can be edited directly on the page.
We are hoping to be able to able to add Managed Navigation and\or Structural Navigation to these type of sites. If publishing could be enabled successfully (at this time it cannot) we would have access to the classic navigation menu.

Hello - I am the program manager for the filters pane feature and we are implementing the tree navigation for the modern experience. We will post exact shipping dates soon!
If Microsoft does not want to have a tree interface on the left nav bar for some reason, they could add it to the SmartFilters interface that appears when you select the funnel icon on the right side of the screen. Actually this would be helpful in and of itself, whether or not they also add it to the left nav bar.
This is keeping me from switching to the new experience too!
In the classic document library experience, you can have a tree interface for navigating metadata tags, filtering the items shown in the library, as described here: https://tinyurl.com/lvltljh
Currently, tree navigation is only available in the classic experience, not new, as explained here: https://tinyurl.com/m6knsj9
In my company, the tree navigation of metadata tags has been crucial for user adoption, weaning them off of the nested folder structure they were used to in file shares, by having an equivalent nested set of metadata tags (not folders).
I am hopeful this functionality can be added to the new document library experience so that we can transition to it.
