Open links in new tabs
allow users to open links in new tabs
Looks like this is how it works now.
I too find it annoying that the default in SP is new tab. When you edit content you end up having numbers of useless open tabs. Some people may like it, some not. Just give the option.
Give the option of where a link is opened and not default a new tab.

I would like to have "open link in new tab" option on Megamenu settings.
With the classic site you could open a folder in a new IE tab. This version only allows you to open in the existing tab. Is there a way to open in a new tab?
It would be wonderful if we could choose whether a link (whether it be on the quick launch, on a page, etc.).
open link in new tab
Win 10, Office 365, SharePoint Site
When on my SharePoint home page, I have a link to Google Scholar which opens in the same browser window or Site Tab in SharePoint. It would be helpful if this could open in a "NEW" window/Tab thereby avoiding the accidental closure of the whole Tab or having to step-back through all the intervening links used to get back to the original SharePoint Site page.
Hope I explained the issue clearly. Thanks for your consideration.
