Smaller hero web part
Hi! It would be great if you could chose to have the hero web part in lesser height.

We’ve reduced the height of the hero web part when in full width columns, but still maintain as much of the aspect ratio as possible. On a very large monitor this can still make the hero quite tall. Authors could also drag hero our of the full width column, into a one column layout (with gutters) , which significantly reduces the height. How would you imagine it should work differently in the full width, or is moving to a one column layout the right choice for reduced height? Thanks!

The 'Layer' option for the Hero web part is great, but takes up too much room. Users have to scroll down to see more than 2 layers. Need the option to reduce the height of the layers.

Need the same number of tiles but for it not to completely fill the screen otherwise people can not see what else is on the site lower down. A narrow version would be very useful.

Additional presets would be useful (e.g. 5/6 equally-sized tiles aligned across or down a column depending on column width, or in layer view, layer image/text aligned rather than offset) but it would also be very useful to control the tile images as well as use the preset stretched/shadowed images, e.g. resize image to show all borders, shading on/off would be a start - even better incorporate the same shadow effects as for shapes in PowerPoint.

I agree the height of the Hero web part should be an editable field. Even when you change it from full page to one column or similar, it is much too tall. The Hero web part is very useful but should be able to look a bit more like a banner and be height adjustable.

the last ask in 2019 seem to over-complicate this, just make the option to have a half-height hero webpart so that it takes up less vertical space

I agree with most comments below, but the ability to adjust the height of the web part in general would be extremely useful. Many comments from laptop users for sites is that it is just too big. A compact option (pre-set) would be better than nothing though.

Agree with many of the comments here - what would be really useful is a compact version that displays all five tiles when positioned in one of the columns in the two column layout. At present only one tile shows when you put the hero into a two column layout column. Users can of course see the other tiles if they use the forward and back buttons that display if they mouse over the hero. Problem is many of our users just won't be bothered to mouse over the hero tile to find more information.

Yes what I would see as being useful is when in the full width column you could set the hero to a "Compact" view that would reduce the height of the entire webpart by 30% or so. As it is now on many screen resolutions the hero part is so large it dominates the page and you need to scroll to far that many of my users dont realize there's content below it.

It would be great if we could just drop and drag the corner of the hero box to choose the size of it.

It would be nice to have a smaller hero option that is bigger than the tile-buttons - where you can also insert pictures as background.
The current button options are not very nice as either you can only insert icons (looks really bad with pictures as icons) and too often the titles are also too “long”...It would be great to have more options of the hero tiles, e.g. all 5/6 tiles same size, one big tile also on right side...
This would definitely look better design-wise. -

They hero webpart needs to be driven off of the news posts, instead of having to edit the page. Create a check box that will put the post in the hero with an expiration date to remove it.

Or just a separate, smaller hero web part...a heroine?
