Hide external users from people picker
It should be possible to exclude / hide the external or guests accounts form the people picker in the share forms.
We want to invite customers to some of our sites but we do not want their account to show up when we use the share dialog.
We want to avoid confusion when both an internal resource and a customer have the same name.

+1. We share documents with guests but guests must only open documents and not be able to find any other guests's names.

Very important for us not to display external/ guest accounts in the share or people picker forms. Can this be made a tenant level option.

We are also struggling with this. Guests that don't know each other shouldn't be able to find each other in people pickers.

I have not found a way to get this to work either. MS have published some articles on this. I have found that you can hide users from SharePoint if you hide them from the address book as per the below article but no solution for guest users.

ok , the solution for me now, is to create a new group to fill it the external users , and then , it works
schema['SharePointGroupID'] = idgroup; -

Anything new on this subject?

I still can't find a setting like this. There should be a switch for all users so you can hide any user account from the people picker as well, for example when a user might have an admin account and a regular account, and situations like that.

We actually need this feature to carry over from SP on-premises to SP Online that allows to hide Guest accounts in SPO. My tenant have about 7,500 users. Imagine the number of guest accounts will grow over time when they start sharing their documents in OneDrive or from SP to external users?

We have the same issues. 200 external users with access to their own private site = yet all users and other member groups can be selected in people picker. If letters are typed in people picker it starts to auto fill.
None of are users should be aware of users outside of their own member group ‘ever’
Any ideas how to resolve?

Any update on this for SharePoint Online? I know it can be done manually for most instances but limited to a single group. Can this be set as default for all Site Colls and not have to use a single group?

It will be good to have guest accounts by default hidden in people picker for sites where external sharing is disabled and only show guest accounts in people picker if site collection has external sharing enabled.
