Allow changing the width of columns when adding sections to a Modern Page
Looks like you can't change columns' width when creating a new section in a Modern Page. Being able to chage it would be very useful. My classic page, for example, has a section containing 3 columns, where the first and last ones have their width set to 25%, while the central one has width set to 50%. In Modern Pages, I can only have 3 columns with the same width, 33% in this case.
Thanks you for the suggestion. We’ve discussed adding additional column layout options (e.g. 4 columns, the specific example provided by the initial suggester 25/50/25, etc.) If we wanted to keep pages consistent (so there aren’t 50 layouts), but allow additional flexibility, what would be the next three layout choices you’d add? Thanks!
Yet another glaring missing feature needed in a Microsoft product. Why can't the size of the columns just be made custom? If I want a 10% / 90% screen, why can't I specify that? We are so limited with options. This one ranks up there with the inability to edit SPO lists in grid form via PowerApps, or not allowing PowerApps to interact with SPO Choice columns. It just stifles creativity.
@Sites Product Team:
Rather than crating a hard coded template with specific sizing, why not give the user the option to apply the sizing by percentage, and use validation to ensure that the total is not over 100%. This would allow the user to customize as they like.
The same could be used for a communications site. The default size would be 100%, and they would be able to specify the number of columns (1 = 100% by default). If the user adds a second or more columns, the option for the size for each column available is presented.
This gives infinite flexibility of the pages without extra templates, and puts the options in front of the user so they can create based on their needs.
As Mark (Mark commented · December 09, 2020 14:26) mentioned, nesting would also be VERY helpful as well.
Yes, this would be very helpful! Right now, you need to scroll so much to the right in a 3 column set-up because there is so much wasted space on the screen. Please make this feature available!
4 columns with the ability to adjust the % would be nice.
Right now, with only 3 columns there is so much white space on a page, and it's just wasted space that just pushes content further down the page.
Is there any updates on this feature request? Looks like the last response was 2019. Seems like a lot of interest for this feature.
I think more options would be helpful if you are unable to allow column adjustments. If you could borrow from the Hero app and allow several options for alternate layouts could be useful and visually appealing.
Allow users to change layout size width PLEASE!! We are converting users to Microsoft Edge and there are issue with using the classic view and opening documents which are resolved by using the modern view so please bump this up in the priority list!
A 4-column layout would be incredibly helpful! Ideally, we would want to showcase images with content beneath in each column. Thanks!
Someone mentioned these before but im going to bump agian!
Allow full width responsiveness (essential as we are using more and more hi-res/4k devices - surface pros/ ultra wide or 4k monitors)
Allow section/nesting. This to my mind would solve the multiple layout requests and give power back to the admins.
Allow user/admin to change layout size very surprised this isn't standard.
42-33-25 (based on a 12 grid system of 5-4-3)
Column heading wrapping is not available and users are complaining about the truncated column headings. This actually encourages users not to use the modern sharepoint.

I would also like to see nested sections. So I could theoretically put a two column section into one of the 3 column sections. Or add a 3 column section to a two column section.
I'd like to see the full width option (for the real estate!), and also a 4x equal columns layout - when using image-based "buttons" I'd like to have 4 across the page to help minimise scroll depth.

Two layouts to add:
1. 4 Column layout
2. 25-50-25 layout
And the option to use more web parts in the full width column.

If you are unable to provide what @Steven Jackson is proposing, I would like the ability to create my own columns with sizes.

Understand the requirement of consistency. More standardized options rather than customization.
1. Vertical sections on each side
2. 4 columns
3. 5 columns
