Choose display fields on Highlighted Content webpart
Allow to display filename attribute instead of title in Highlighted content webpart
We are thinking about a plan for editing the highlighted content display fields, but do not currently have a timeline for this feature

Same here! I can only underline the urgency of this topic.
Unfortunately, I cannot even find it on the road map yet: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=SharePoint

I see this is in THINKING ABOUT IT status. This is critical to the success of our intranet. We have people really trying to use metadata to pull content onto pages dynamically. I've sold it and people have bought in, but the inability to hide what is perceived as "noise" makes people use the ugly List View instead making it look like a network folder.

When using it to display NEWS (because the users like the Film Strip format) it displays the Created By column but should display the Author Byline. It also displays a SharePoint icon to indicate the file type. Would really like the option NOT to show that.
Most of the documents are uploaded by me, or created by me. Then my name and picture shows up on each piece of highlighted content. How do I remove "created by" , "edited by", "Modified by" fields off?

The webpart *should* display the fields as specified in the CAML query, but is does not. In this stage it is way to over simplified and not ready for production use.

We should be able to select ANY column on the list content types or ANY list column to display in the HCWP. The current capabilities are extremely limited and aren't ready for us to roll out production solutions yet.
Separately, it's a huge problem that the title displayed here is not taken from the metadata title column but instead artificial intelligence is used to derrive a title. It creates an inconsistent and confusing experience for users.
The display fields should be an editable template so each organization or portal owner could define their own according to their needs. Maybe even allow organizations to offer 2 or 3 different display templates which editors could choose from when adding this webpart.

Those who have voted here, please vote for the grouping option in Highlighted Content also.

Also option to show or hide column header, if we are just displaying title of document I don't want it show the header "Title".
Agreed. I would like to be able to determine the column names, similarly to a document library list, but I need my HC web part to pull content from different sites across my organization. Also, the documents should be able to be sorted alphabetically...

For pages, it would make sense to show the page owner in the Highlighted Content web part instead of the person who last edited the page.
As part of new Govt web standards we are required to show file type and size on all documents. This is not possible with the current display of this webpart. It would be helpful if the columns displayed could be selected from a range of options
It makes very little sense to use Title when Name is the predominant field now used elsewhere in SharePoint.
There is a community project which has developed something similar to the Highlighted Content web part but which allows selection of display fields : https://github.com/SharePoint/sp-dev-fx-webparts/tree/master/samples/react-content-query-webpart Unfortunately this community project web part does not pull back information from more than one site collection. Please extend the Highlighted Content webpart to display any fields like this community web part. Note : the Highlighted Content web part DOES return information from multiple site collections, in our case those connected to a Hub site which is VERY useful.
It is possible to make Highlighted Content webpart display filenames instead of title. By editing the title property in the search schema settings and promote "Basic10" property (which for some reason represents filename) to the top.
However, this "fix" has negative side-effects on other webparts (e.g. news webpart not displaying the news headline, but instead something like "news-file-name.aspx"
The possibility to tailor what is being displayed (texts as well as the image) would be really useful
Thanks Meg, exactly our point.

Say the organisation has a template for Project Documentation.
Each time a new project is added that template is to be used to record specific information about the project.
Where Highlighted Content webpart falls short is when:
A) The template has a place holder "Project Documentation" in the documents title property field
B) the user doesn't maintain the title property field when using the template to build a new document (saved with a unique filename).
you can pretty much guarantee that there will be a lot of documents listed in the Documents Highlighted content called "Project Documentation"
Please can we edit the column to select either Title OR Filename.
In addition/alternative to this, I would also like to be able to replace some of the default columns with other columns. So, instead of displaying Modified and Modified By, it shows a custom column e.g. Doc-ID, which could be something like CAT-POL-001.
Certainly agree that the Modified and Modified By does waste real estate.
Expanding on the title of this suggestion, please allow suppression of default fields - for example, person and date. The Highlighted Content web part has proven to be highly useful to provide convenient dynamic visual tile curation of a collection of pages that have common attributes. In this case, the only thing often needed is the image and title. The rest of it often becomes repetitive clutter that takes up page real estate.
