Discussion Board Webpart
I would love to see a webpart that would make it easy to add a discussion board. Yammer is an option but makes it hard to monitor and get notification if you need to watch for multiple discussions.

Thank you for the feedback. Adding a discussion board webpart is not in our plans right now. However, we are continuing to work with the Yammer team to improve the Yammer webpart, and appreciate any suggestions.

I am looking for the a solution that works on prem, Yammer can't be used. I can see that for the last couple of years you are pushing everything to online only. I really need the discussion board web part to work on modern pages. I am in a state that I can't recommend to my customers to use on prem SharePoint because it looks like you are killing the product.

Sometimes I feel there is a little bit of arrogance and ignorance to tie all social enterprise to Yammer on SP. Microsoft are a little bit too pushy on the noisey comms and it is impacting productivity. A nice elective web part would have been classy, engaging and respectful to employees time. It annoys me that MS is pushing out so much to our employees assuming they know whats best and what is needed for communications.

both the Newsfeed and Discussion Board were early attempts by Microsoft to make SharePoint more dynamic and social. However, both are limited in terms of functionality and are not user-friendly. In reality, both lack the true social aspect you would expect from such tools. Especially, if you start comparing to the modern experiences on mainstream social networks like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.

Would a Teams Web Part work for you?

It's a shame this is not in the plans right now. The yammer web part doesn't provide a great experience and it also requires that you maintain yammer in addition to sharepoint. Yammer itself feels like overkill when you are just trying to have a simple message board on your intranet.

We're looking for a traditional discussion forum style board to be hosted on a SharePoint site, to be built with modern web parts, which will be shared with internal staff and many guest users. (The guest users are why Teams and Yammer are not suitable).

Hi,
We have checked that they have included as a web element to include lists in modern pages, but we need to include Forum-type lists.
Please, you can analyze it. There are many users who are requesting it.
Thank you in advance -

It appears to be part of Sharepoint Online now.

Is there a discussion/newsfeed replacement web part that allows easy text formatting and multiple inline images management?
We have one, but are moving away from the vendor that provides it.

I definitely preferred the discussion board displayed on the main site. It linked you directly to each individual notifications/Information etc, it was lists the messages verus having to go thorugh the chat in teams and review what people are saying/ offering etc.

Our organization would love to see this as an option for modern sites. We're currently using Teams groups as a workaround, and have been hesitant to enable Yammer due to the additional needed administration.
In the past customizable SharePoint discussion board lists checked off everything that we needed. The modern site equivalent just doesn't cut it in its current state.

We need an "official" looking discussion board. Yammer doesn't work because the adoption of yammer trained people to use it as a social networking and communications tool. We need a separate area for Q&A with highly trained subject matter experts.

Why hasn't this been enabled on the modern page?

It would be a wonderful if Microsoft brought the Discussion Boards forward into Modern Pages - improved look, mobile friendly, searchable, and a webpart. Communities still need Question and Answer (Q&A) features. Yammer doesn't have the ability to 'answer', still feels disconnected from SPO, and not all companies want to enable it.

Discussion board is only possible in classical pages while it is an essential part for collaboration.

There is another reason Yammer is not a good fit. Yammer channel is accessible via Yammer. Embedding an Yammer channel to sharepoint site page has lots of limitations....like we can have an yammer channel for each page because it will be too many Yammer channels. Discussion boards can be unique to each wiki page so the discussion can be in the context of that wiki page.

In our environment, Yammer posts are not permanent, making it not ideal to use as a discussion board. To retain the information, a discussion board is needed.
