Hub Site Content Rollup Filtering
Add filtering to News and Events rolled up to the Hub Site e.g. allow filtering by a metadata column to selected items are shown rather than all. This would allow news to show in a connected site but only appear on the Hub based on the filter criteria.
In a flat architecture with a main company portal home page this is a necessity. This type of filtering can be done on the Highlighted Content webpart with news items, but the display options of that webpart are limited.
9/10 ... just need that little bit extra to make it actually useful please.
Agree with this suggestion whole heartedly - we moved from a centralised approach for our News to a distributed model at the suggestion of the local Microsoft staff. The fact that I can't set parameters around what news articles appear on my 'home' page is a serious limitation

In my workplace, they want to display News in category wise. So it's so useful option for various time. Not only Hub sites when we select multiple sites it might help.
Most group of companies wanna this filter option to divided to their section as well.
But 'Highlighted Content ' don't do it better, because it has Manage property instead of page property.Page property will only show column name.In SharePoint Online site columns that contain values automatically become managed properties when they are crawled.
It looks like the Events Rollup currently allows you to choose one Category metadata as a kind of filter. This is a very limited filtering capability, but if at least this single column category filter was added to the News rollup, that would be very helpful.
Obviously having more sophisticated "where-type" filtering for both rollups is most desirable, but even a single column filter would be huge.
I'd like to see this extended to cover not just hub sites, but news webparts where added to a communication site, where the user selects to rollup news from multiple selected websites as well.
There is a related post on news item metadata which fits will with this requirement: https://sharepoint.uservoice.com/forums/329214-sites-and-collaboration/suggestions/20384419-add-news-article-metadata
This is a must have feature, the filtering in news web part must be available while pulling news posts from different sites.
@Chris : Agree, highlighted contents has limited filtering option. Also the Carousel layout in HC web parts degrades the image quality while displaying news posts (which is not the case with News web part).
Although you can use Highlighted Content, that doesn't let you filter on EventDate with a 'greater than' option.
@STRiCT: Roll-up for Events is now on the roadmap "SharePoint hub sites: Events web part roll up" (Feature ID: 33135). Unfortunately not estimated until Q1 2019.
@Steve Knutson: If you use the highlighted content webpart for Events - they will show in the Classic view (Classic list element) when shown from the hub site front page - not the modern view with image and all.
I'm voting for earlier release of Events roll-up on Hub sites from all sites in the hub - incl. modern view.

The recent change to page metadata and the news webpart on modern sites only allows the news webpart to filter news using metadata for the current site. As the news on my hub site comes from the hub site and three child sites, this metadata change adds no value.
Please allow for the filtering of metadata in the news webpart across all sites in the hub, rather than just the current site.

This is a great idea. The new metadata change to the news webpart only works for news from the current site, not all the sites in the hub. Makes it almost useless.

You can use the 'Highlighted Content' Web Part to rollup Events from sites connected to the Hub
Documents have filtering, News does not have filtering, and there is NO rollup for Events! Someone explain to me why/how Events do not have content rollup?!?!
