Easy column formatting for SharePoint lists
I get that JSON gives ultimate flexibility for column formatting, I really do - BUT - please can we have some basic if-then-else value-based column formatting options built in to the list field definition user interface?
It would really help the rest of us who are not coding geeks and don't have the time to understand the ins and outs of the very convoluted JSON syntax.
And while you are about it, please can we have TODAY() or NOW() and ME() functions enabled for calculated fields?
.. and a SUBSTITUTE() text function like excel please!
Easy column formatting could look something like this:
In the formatting section:
* Selection for Custom JSON -OR- Simple formatting
* Custom JSON option same as now
* Simple formatting option presents a form showing these options
When the field contains: "value" -OR- a wildcard pattern such as '*@*'
Select Font Style: Normal | Bold | Italic | Underline
Select Font Colour: (from standard colour wheel or palette, not hex codes)
Select Fill Colour: (from standard colour wheel or palette, not hex codes)
Select Charm: None | from a standard set of icons and symbols
Select Border: None | from a standard set of border options
* + add another value formatting option | clear formatting
Selecting these simple options generates the appropriate JSON as required, but your average SharePoint Site Admin SHOULD NOT have to wade through tons of JSON code to accomplish such simple formatting.
