Allow metadata to be added when uploading from Document Library Web Part on Modern Site
When you place a document library web part on a modern page, and upload a document, the document is uploaded to the library and if you have metadata, there is no chance to add metadata. If you select the file that has just been uploaded, you can Share, Delete, Download or Rename. You must go directly in to the library to add the metadata. The user experience is lacking.

We haven't been on MS 365 for a year and this is one of our most complained about issues.

Metadata considerations need to be paramount to the entire SharePoint experience - How can you tell people not to use folders when metadata options are limited and not forced? How can we convince our users SharePoint is a viable DMS solution if we have all these metadata entry issues?

It will be in favour for the user experience and data integrity that the user is requested during the upload of a document to be asked for the metadata. Retrospectively updating the metadata is in the favour of forgetting the required info and an excuse that the required time is not available.
A combination of the both environments (classic and modern) is the best solution and works in favour of all.

Need this!!!!! We have required metadata in libraries that are displayed via web parts on pages. I can't ask users to click See All every time they add a document to get the Required Metadata added. What's the point of setting is as required if they can just upload without adding it???

Yes, please make this happen. No point in having Metadata if you can't manage it from the web part.

Yes, prompt users for metadata when uploading to a DL via the WebPart

This is still a current issue. With no prompt for the required (or any) metadata fields of documents, it requires users to perform multiple steps to find the documents that have been uploaded and key in the information for the columns. Which often results in the document becoming lost in an Unclassified state within a library group by view.
I believe this suggestion is the same as a request from 2016. Which was classified as done, but now seems not to work at all? https://sharepoint.uservoice.com/forums/329214-sites-and-collaboration/suggestions/15294327

Prompting for user metadata before allowing the document to be loaded within the webpart would be a better design.
