Starting number of a Numbered List
At the moment there is no way to create a numbered list with a specific starting number. It would be importand to create knowledgebase pages. For example, in the middle of an action plan, I'd like to insert a picture. It requires a new image web part. The next Text web part, however will restart the numbering and I cannot continue from where I left off.

I need this functionality also. I would like to use SharePoint Online as a knowledge base with embedded content (in place of PDFs), and I need to be able to have numbered lists and images.

Incredibly frustrating that this isn't currently possible.

Writing user guides is now tortuous in Modern Sharepoint,
1 xxx
2 xxx
3 xxx
Now you will see xxxxx
4 xxxx
etc
Piece of cake in Classic Sharepoint this is supposed to be progress? -

We are migrating from wordpress to sharepoint and have hundreds of articles that have images strewn throughout. This function would make life so much better.

It's 2020 and I'm floored that Sharepoint O365 can't do this yet. :(

Running into exactly this problem. No way to insert an image in the middle of a text part, and no way to continue numbering at the start of a new text part.
