unpublish and delete news
I've had lots of requests to surface options to unpublish and delete news articles from the page itself. It is too complicated for most end users (and too far to go) to access site contents and delete a page from the site pages library.
In addition to this, it would also be useful to have schedule and expiry dates to give the user full control over publications.
If u click on the news item, then click page details, there is a "delete news post" option at the bottom of the right hand window
IT'S NOT OBVIOUS HOW TO DO THIS

Allow us to completely remove a page from the news stream but retain it as a page (demote it from it's promoted state). Helpful if we want to make future updates to the page without it publishing in the newsfeed every time. Helpful also when news becomes outdated but we don't want to delete the page.
The current unpublish Button suggests, that the news will not be shown for readers any longer - but it only unpublishes the current version.
Instead older Versions of this news will be shown to the readers.
Agreed often the page needs to remain as an ongoing resource but no longer needed to listed as news.
Having the option to unpublish without delete ould be fantastic
I also see sense in an unpublish button and an expire date for news, we use it heavily in our Intranet, and for end users it might be easier to unpublish a news from the intranet with a button, instead of opening site pages etc ....
I understand how to Unpublish a page within the page library; however, this does not resolve the need here for a way to remove the "News" condition while maintaining the ability to edit minor versions of the page. This also comes in when a singular News post doesn't display on roll-ups as expected and has already been published to a major version greater than 2.0. Irritating.
UPDATE: I just found a workaround that DOES resolve this issue (just not intuitively within the user interface). If you show/hide columns and show Promoted State, there is a 0 or 2 key that you can flip back to 0 within Quick Edit mode. This unpublishes the page and you can carry forward with the use case scenario.
My customer needs an unpublish button to draw back a news article to make some changes (without the need to delete the page). There should be a way to set an news article to draft again.

We also need this ability. If you have news relating to a specific date (ie an invitation to an event), the news item should be unpublished either by an expiry date or a manual act from the editor. We would prefer unpublishing as the editor in question would still be able to find the news item and re-use it for another news item. And in general, we prefer not to delete content from our Intranet but still want it clean and easy for our users.
