Add a way to change favicon on modern team sites
There doesn't seem to be a way to change the favicon on a site. This is helpful to make shortcuts looks nice and relevant to the site, as well as being able to easily locate the site tab when many tabs are open

This feature should be added to the site logo section or available in the site settings.
I slightly modified the SPFx extension, so you're able to just drop a file into SP's Site Assets library that's called "favicon.ico".
You may download my version from here: http://4us2use.at/?p=303
I agree there should be a way to configure this as part of the site settings.
As a workaround I've found a sample SPFx Extension that changes the favicon. Here's their code https://github.com/joaoferreira/SPFx-favicon, and here's the code author's blog post detailing the SPFx Extension they created: https://sharepoint.handsontek.net/2018/08/24/change-favicon-on-modern-sharepoint-sites/
It's not perfect, there is a bit of a delay for the icon to change while the page code loads, but will be adequate until there is a built-in way to change this.
As there is still no solution from MS - I just found this easy solution (ok it’s not for free, but cheap) which works for both Modern and Classic Sites – Favicon for SharePoint Modern Sites: https://www.tecconsult.at/products/sharepoint-favicon-for-modern-sites
Agree. This could be added to the site logo section or available in the site settings.
Definitely something that I am surprised isnt available as a setting in SharePoint Admin
