map network drive
Drive mapping - again!
Users are too wedded to mapped drives and will not work with SharePoint libraries through the browser. Many third-party applications just expect drive letters and don't work with web locations.
With IE support being dropped, we also lose the ability to authenticate to SharePoint and establish the WebDAV connection.
We see people mapping network drives anyway, then their session expires after a couple of weeks and we get support tickets to help them fix their drives AGAIN. Taking this away will cause carnage.
I know Microsoft don't want people to work this way, but you must meet the people where they are. Please produce a Windows 10 mechanism for handling the authentication and allow mapping drives because we're getting so much pain from this single point. I don't care how, it just needs to work.
Spoke to two 2 Microsoft support techs looked into trying to fix the issue but Microsoft obviously made corporate decision not to include drive mapping ability to sharepoint into new Edge browser, like they had built into IE, and now that they are pushing Edge and Edge is highjacking IE as native browser(if you click to open IE, it actually opens Edge now) in win10 since latest windows updates as of June 2021, Edge does not have the webdav ability built it, so no more mapped drives. Microsoft's "solution" to this is that they are pushing to use synch function to manipulate sharepoint files, which for whatever reason makes manipulating documents an arduously slow process, as opposed to files being able to be nimbly accessed previously though mapped drive in file explorer. This development is very frustrating for corporate users that have had mapped drives to office 365 sharepoint since 2016! -->Microsoft really needs to listen and incorporate webdav functionality into Edge so users can once again map drives- within the Microsoft ecosystem!(rather than have to buy a 3rd party product live webdrive to simply be able to map a network drive to sharepoint.

We need to find other way to use WebDAV to Map SharePoint Drives to a letter drive to SharePoint using web dev options.
Not every Third-party software developer has implemented a functionality to tie into SharePoint. To be able to access folders and files that essentially don't live locally on a Windows 10 machine or a server.
I found that mapping SharePoint to a letter drive versus mapping it as a network location. Reduce the amount to support for me as a tech.
Does Microsoft have plans with IE going away in the next few months, are they going to convert these functionalities to be able to authenticate with Microsoft Edge?
Check out Zee Drive as a means of mapping network drives to SharePoint Online. Zee Drive will refresh authentication tokens automatically. See http://www.thinkscape.com/Map-Network-Drives-To-Office-365-OneDrive/
