Our old SharePoint site had its own email address which allowed our team to post specific types of meetings to a SharePoint Calendar. For instance we maintain a team PTO calendar. We post PTO dates to our own calendars and the PTO calendar using its email address and then have a calendar we can reference with everyone's time off.
We maintain a similar calendar for weekly project meetings so that meeting leaders can easily see whether they are scheduling recurring meetings on top of one another and preventing attendees from getting to all the meetings they need to.

This would be extremely helpful for folks who want a page to direct their teams to in SharePoint that works with group and Outlook calendars. Currently you can publish a calendar to embed in SharePoint but you cannot do so with the group calendar included with SharePoint ( and other apps that a group can be created with)
The new SharePoint Lists calendar view looks like it will not be a true calendar with recurring events and invitations so the Outlook integration is still needed please!

So this is still an issue in 2020 - I've created a meeting in Sharepoint and cannot edit it from Outlook.

What our team missing, is the ability to interact with certain custom fields that are added to the SharePoint Calendar through Outlook. Additionally, it would be great if there was a way to specify (i.e. through SharePoint list settings) which fields should be visible\editable through Outlook and which should not.
So when a user creates a new record in a SharePoint calendar through an Outlook, he/she could specify values for those fields according to the list settings (taking into account field validations, lookup values, etc.). Also, if a user would try to create a new record in a SharePoint calendar (through Outlook) by just dragging and dropping an event from the Outlook calendar, a new pop-up needs to show up asking to specify values for required custom values (that are missing from the Outlook calendar)

It should also be possible that people who are part of the sharepoint calender get a reminder that an event is starting in e.g.15 Min. (same like in Outlook). The person who adds the event to the sharepoint calender should be the one that manages the reminder. Currently, persons can only do it on their own in their outlook, which is not convenient as they don't do it and then miss the event.

With the mix of outlook and sharepoint in apps like teams, this is a must in order to be on the SAME page.

This is one of our most requested features. We cannot migrate from Exchange mailboxes to team calendars to SPO until there is integration and not having this critical integration is slowing overall adoption of SPO since everything is in Outlook. Please think about it faster, this has had no movement in three years.

Use case: an event calendar for an Employee Resource Group. Users can go to the SharePoint calendar and either request an invitation or accept the meeting and add it to their Outlook calendar.
If the event item in SharePoint changes, the event in Outlook will change, too. And I can see who's accepted.
Right now, the workaround is to send meeting invitations to everyone, or rely on people to add the event themselves (and have no way to update what's in their calendar).

What I keep hearing in my organisation is teams want a 'Team site' calendar that does not send the invite to everyone in the team's calendar. They want more of a team wide FYI calendar of events, where the event can go to certain people if required, or just be in the team site so other's can see what other people have on that week, or deadlines, or even fun stuff like celebrations. It would be great if this could be done by week or month rather than by number of events.

I dream of a day when my team of 21 people can send invites on which office they will be in to a SP calendar so it is viewable by everyone and doesn't need to live on everyone's Outlook Calendar or as a separate calendar in Outlook.
I also want to be able to use these invites to kick of Flow's to let people in the firm know who is going to be in their office, set on call duties and remind our leads of PTO dates so that they can plan accordingly.
Though I have been asking for this feature for oooh about 10 years now. I'm not sure we will ever get it...

We want to see an option where SharePoint calendar will have an option to accept invitations from any team member and include the event on the SharePoint calendar. We have outlook calendars where all the events loaded and they will receive invites and those events should be displayed on the SharePoint online calendar.

My team wants to be able to add an event to our personal Outlook calendars, and have the option to include it to our team's SharePoint calendar. Also, to send this event to specific team members, not everyone in the team.

Yes, and add to that an option for an attendee to notify organizer of a meeting if he/she is attending physically or via online meeting (in order for organizer to book meeting room according to number of persons showing up in person.
It would also be good if organizer could see how many have "added meeting to calendar"

Calendar integration between Outlook/Exchange/SharePoint really needs to take a few leaps forward. People want to be able to see time and resources (where, what and who) and one of the key places that's done is in a calendar. If SharePoint/Outlook/O365 can provide better integration and options I think this would leap the platform ahead. As noted by others, there are other solutions and platforms that have much better calendar integration. :-)

Make SP calendar event notifications addable to an Outlook Web App calendar. When I receive an event notification in my email from SP I can't add that event to my Outlook Web App calendar. I have to manually type in the event to my calendar. This functionality is available from other websites, eg if I receive an event notification from EventBrite I can click to add it to my OWA calendar.
