I frankly don't understand why it isn't completely seamless. I'm currently trying to create a group calendar for my IT department and it is an enormous pain in the butt. It should at least be able to automatically pull information from a user's calendar to show whether they are busy or not.

When a task is created, the people to whome that task is assigned can see the task in their personal Outlook Calendar

And provide functionality where sharepoint calendar invites to people prompt them at the appointed time with an alert.

We have multiple applications where our users want to integrate a SharePoint calendar with their Outlook calendars and the inability to do this with meeting requests prevents the applications from being really functionally useful.
