When multiple files are selected in a library, enable the Download a Copy button to download a zip file containing the files.
Yes, apologies for late update on this one. We have implemented support for this in the modern library UX.

Hasn't this been a feature of modern document libraries for some time now?

Glad to hear you're working on it! Will this be made available to SP2016 on-prem, too?

Please also provide a multiple download option for files without a zip file.
Otherwise you force users to unzip those files before they can be further used which makes the workflow inconvenient.
Would be really nice if you would consider adding an Excel file in the zip containing a listing of the files with their metadata!!!

Firstly, this would be very useful functionality in OOTB SharePoint.
Secondly, several 3rd party solutions are available that allow downloading of multiple files. Recently a browse-based solution that allows downloading of complete folder structures has been released. It uses up to 6 parallel requests to provide exceptional performance. See www.slimapplications.com

I can't believe that this is not implemented as a common feature in OfB/SPO. Yes I know these are very different products than OneDrive or Dropbox but this shouldn't be the problem for the customer. Every online file sharing solution I know so far supports downloading of folders or multiple files as a ZIP. My users are going to moan about this lack of feature; I can hear it already...

There is an App in the SharePoint Store allowing to download multiple files as one zip: https://store.office.com/download-multiple-documents-WA104146066.aspx?assetid=WA104146066
Or be able to send selected files in a email as an attachment.
Note: you do get this functionality with a Document Set.
