For organisations that would like to use Communication site as their intranet it would be great if you could provision the root site as a Communication site, rather than a team site with a redirect to the communication site.

When adding a news article (site page) on Communication Sites, through the new interface, it would be great to be able to populate additional metadata for the page.

Ability to select category (or multiple) for a news article when you create it. Plus the ability to filter the news widget by category.

Please add support for using Office 365 Connectors also in Communication Sites. For example, I would like to display data from outside by using an RSS Feed connector on a Communication Site page.80 votes

Add the "Rating Settings" to document libraries in Communication Sites. This exists on other doc libraries from other site templates. This would allow users to rate/like content and we could add a section of "most like documents" etc to the page.73 votes
SharePoint site news articles are great with the embedded comments section. I would ask and recommend that there be some sort of notifier/alert to the original comment poster when someone else responds to it. This would help keep conversations going forward. It's rather hard to find your original comments when there are many comment posts.72 votes
For customers who are trying to completely modernize their large SharePoint implementations, it should be possible to convert an existing site collection to use the communication site template.
It can simply be a powershell command that applies all the features/etc. it needs.
It doesn't need to change existing content, just apply the styles and create the typical landing page for a communication site.
It'll make it easier to adopt upcoming features (like adding sites to hubs, etc.)70 votes

Highlighted Content Events do not show the event when you click on the event within highlighted content.
News events in highlighted content shows the news article that was originally posted. So why don't events?

Communications sites should not be created in the same managed path as Groups sites. They are not managed the same way and don't follow the same rules.

We are planning to provide a path selection mechanism in the new admin center, but until then we’ll look to at least amend the PowerShell (note that you can already set the path using PnP PowerShell – specifically, the New-PnPTenantSite cmdlet).
As there is no variations feature anymore and obviuosly Microsoft isn´t investing in this feature for communications sites it would be pretty helpful to have bing translator integrated to a News page or normal page inside communication sites. We as a large coopertaion have to meet legal requirements providing multiple languages for an Intranet. Its just ´so much effort and not really efficient to create for each language an own communication site and link in between. This is as well nor really ideal for Editors of articles who have to publish their News multiple times in various communication site with the same Content but just in another language.

Can there be an option to make the Hero Tiles smaller? They are very large and would be good to have some control of the size and how many tiles you can have (5 is too little, I might want 6+ smaller tiles, for example)43 votes
We are using the communication sites mostly for company news, but we still cant see who read this or that news.
So, considering the objective of a coomunication site, it will be great if we can see:
1. Who has accessed the main page;
2. Which page news they opened;

Communication & modern team sites created only in English. There is no option to create them in other languages. Please add language picker to process. Global organizations have local subsidiaries and they wish to allow local teams to communicate in the local language. In the tenant admin you can set option to force default language for all tenant sites or to allow language selection which will be added to the self site creation wizard.42 votes
I like the new Comments feature on Comm. Sites.
But there are use cases, where you need to create plenty of pages without comments. After publishing a new page we need to edit, disable comments and publish this page again.
Would be nice to enable/disable comments by default on Site Collection level.40 votes
