Set Metadata for multiple files
Set Metadata for all files that are being uploaded. Currently when a user uploads multiple documents the metadata has to be set afterwards.
Add this to SP2016
I have done this using column settings in the library - just set a default value for the column. Granted, this is not a complete solution if your users need to use something other than the default for the batch, but it is at least a start. And as other comments here already suggest it is fairly quick to select all the document and apply after the upload in the Modern interface
You can use "Quick Edit" or "Bulk Edit" in "modern libraries" - select multiple files and choose Document Information Panel.
Or you can use a third party tool like DMS-Shuttle. It can bulk edit metadata on documents after the upload. But it can set metadata during the upload as well. It works also for very large lists (with more than 5000 items). For more details: https://dms-shuttle.com/documentation/bulk-edit-metadata-in-office-365/
This also has to work when the users open the library in explorer view and dumps a bunch of documents that way.
dont forget content type. "Quick edit" (or after the fact metadat) does not allow you to change the content type.
Enable the edit properties dialog when uploading or drag&drop for 1 file or many.
