  1. Modern SharePoint Search Center

Please release a Modern SharePoint Search Center also, which supports setting up a dedicated responsible search evironment that works cross browser and allows us to search for managed properties and drill through the results with e.g. search refiners.

Besides modern Team site publishing pages, new modern web parts, modern libraries and lists currently in preview and modern publishing sites planned for H1 calendar 2017, I haven't found any information regarding a modern SharePoint Search Center yet.

We have started modernizing the search results page a few years ago. It is available on every site under this URL: /_layouts/15/search.aspx/siteall?q=myquery. Also the new search box placed in the suite header has started rolling out to modern experiences, and will be available broadly by end of June. We will be making it available to classic sites later this year as well. Some customers redirect their classic search boxes to the modern results page already.

The modern search experience is a part of the overall Microsoft Search experiences. See more details in this post: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Microsoft-Search-Blog/Welcome-to-Microsoft-Search-intelligent-search-for-the-modern/ba-p/531156. We will be bringing additional improvements to it later in 2019, and early 2020 as well including custom refiners, verticals, result types with modern display templates, as well as custom pages that can use modern web parts.

  2. Reindex User Profiles option

When crawling user profiles there is no control over when crawls happen or when changed details are picked up. When changing Managed Properties you never know when these changes are applied as user profiles aren't changed and therefore continuous crawls will not run.

I propose that an option to reindex user profiles is added to Office 365/SharePoint Online so that all user profiles are reindexed during the next crawl. Similar to reindex list for lists and libraries in SharePoint.

    More details:

  3. The current SharePoint Search doesnt handle search miss-spelling (i.e. Typos). To enable this we need to upload predefined set of miss-spell

The current SharePoint Search doesn't handle search miss-spelling (i.e. Typos) using did you mean option. To enable this we need to upload predefined set of miss-spelling. I expect SharePoint to buildup these terms dynamically like google or any standard search engine does.

  4. Implement Synonyms / Thesaurus in SharePoint Online

The ability to create a thesaurus of synonyms is invaluable, and exists in on-premises SharePoint but not SPO, this should be remedied.

Customers use the Search Thesaurus feature for many scenarios: to map acronyms to their expanded terms, to provide relevant results when companies merge or are acquired, to map corporate vocabularies to "plain English," and many more.

This would also make it possible to allow "Other Labels" including alternate languages in a Term Set to also be treated as synonyms in search results, which IIRC is the way it works on-premises but it also seems we've lost the ability…

  5. Change or add new automatically created search managed properties to have the same type as site columns

Automatically created managed properties in SharePoint Online (and on-prem) are created from their corresponding site columns always as text (details at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/technical-reference/automatically-created-managed-properties-in-sharepoint). Basically, these managed properties are being created as textual representations of the values of their corresponding site columns. The problem with these approach is that we can only make free search queries with these managed properties even if the corresponding site column is of type Date or Decimal for example. With this approach, more intelligent queries according to the site column data type as range queries cannot be performed. Here are some examples of queries cannot be…

  6. Modern Search - Provide option to change scope from local to global

Current modern search in communication/modern team site defaults to local scope and search results are from the current site. Users has to click on the SharePoint link from breadcrumb in order to expand the search scope across sites.

Most of our customers prefer to search on the broader scope rather than searching on the current site, esply. for the Communication sites.

  7. Search should find site home pages!

I should be able to put metadata on pages in SharePoint and use search to find them via that metadata--always.

I want to create page directories for users by which I can configure the user experience to search and find the pages that I flag with a given property ("Germany" or "mobile" for example). However, Microsoft Support (Service request #SRX616021594549282ID) confirms to me that if a page is flagged as the home page of a site, it can no longer be searched and found via metadata.

This is astonishing--that a page disappears from search (via metadata) when a user flags…

  9. Audio Search Result Preview

Audio (mp3) files currently do not preview OR link to the audio file itself (they link to the file details page) unlike video (mp4) files in search results. This causes a poor user experience when searching for audio.

  10. Application Extensions don't show on Modern search

If you deploy a SPFx application extension to a site for a header/footer, this shows on most pages, but not on the search page.

Would be nice if custom headers/footers showed on the site search page as well.

  11. Faster search crawls

According to microsoft the latency in the search index can be anything from 15 minute to 6 hours. This is not viable for building solutions that rely heavily on search. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2008449

  13. Allow easier management of the trimduplicates setting

When we search for content, we often (some might say "usually") need to see all results for our search query. It seems that by default, trimduplicates is set to true in SharePoint Online. This seems to be true in the search Web Parts and in the search API.

My suggestion is that we have far better and clearer ways to manage this setting, including:
    * An easy toggle in the Content Search Web Part (CSWP)
    * A clear way on the search results pages to choose to show duplicates where there are any. This was present in earlier versions of…

  14. Support SharePoint Multilingual Term Store

The search over SharePoint 2013 columns based on "Multilingual Term Store" does not work correctly.
Currently the crawler only retrieves values of the site's default languange in columns of type "Managed Metadata". Alternative languages are not retrieved.
Thus the search only returns results for queries that match the default language. Matches with alternative translations are not taken into account.
We wish to see this in the next release!

  15. Please add the ability to search online for the middle or end part of a filename

For a document with the filename "0267F243469.pdf"

Allow searching to find the document with:
    filename:*F243469.pdf
    filename:*F243469
    filename:*F2434*

Many other online solutions support the ability to search the middle or end part of a filename (not just the beginning or an isolated word) ie: Box, Dropbox, ownCloud, Datto Drive etc. Windows Explorer works fine, just not the online web search.

  16. SharePoint Hybrid (OCR) Search

This idea is to enable SharePoint search to perform optical character recognition of images (incl. scanned PDF documents) when they are crawled by the SharePoint hybrid crawler. This will make it possible to search for text inside images (and scanned PDF documents) and find these documents more easily. Today, it is not possible to search for text inside such images or documents.

  17. Office web apps preview .msg files

Office web apps offers great added value for end users within SharePoint 2013, but still misses the ability to preview .msg files. Not in all cases the alternative of site mailboxes eg in our case we have about 200K site collections which all contain quite some .msg files.
The ability to preview these messages from eg within search compared with opening each mail would enhance our end user experience significantly.

  18. Pages created using custom Page Layout don't get indexed

Pages created using a page layout (layouts created via the Design Manager, no additional custom code, only what was provisioned by the tool), don't get indexed and therefore aren't searchable.
Pages that can't be searched become pretty useless as users aren't able to find them and they can't be displayed in any search-based web parts.
This issue has been known for over two years now - please fix it asap.

  20. We need to be able to add custom refiners to the default modern hub site search experience.

We have several business needs which rely on easily searching and consuming information across our sites. While we appreciate the work so far that's gone into modern hub and site structures, we would like to be able to customize the default hub site search part. Particularly, we want to be able to add additional Refiners. We already have the required refiners in our site's defined search schema, why not allow us to add additional refiners to the search experience?
