  1. Give option for search on _layouts/15/viewlsts.aspx to function as normal search

Using the search at the top left of the site contents page has a filtering impact on the contents and subsites listings. This functionality is a complete divergence from the search experience in other parts of SharePoint. There should be a way to send all search boxes to the same search results page, instead of this rather confusing setup.

  2. Add CSOM support for setting Search visibility settings

The setting "Always index all Web Parts on this site", is not yet exposed trough CSOM.

This setting can be found in site settings > Search and Offline Availability > Indexing ASPX Page Content

This is usefull when using sites with broken permissions, which are then not indexed as needed.

Please add this functionality to CSOM.
    It is this property: web.ASPXPageIndexMode = WebASPXPageIndexMode.Always;

  4. Search doesn't find things in many places that I think it should.

For example: The caption in an Image Gallery webpart, The caption in a Stream webpart, in page comments, in the twitter webpart. I think it is a valid use case for a user to want to find information from all of these places.

  6. Add search option to SharePoint Lists (instead of Filter)

Lists have two options: search through the entire SharePoint repository or Filter a column. I absolutely need a search option within a list to better query results on one page. This is especially true when you don't know the column in which the data resides.

  7. Partial word search by default (no requirement for wildcard)

I worked with Microsoft support to create a new search scope that included the wildcard for every entry at the top level site. We applied this template as the default and it works when searching at the top level site. However, it does not apply when searching within a Document library that resides at the same level as the parent. Ultimately, we do not want to require a wildcard for every partial search. If someone wants to find instructions in our library for GoToMeeting they should be able to find it by simply entering Goto.

  8. Modern Sharepoint search page to use Search settings page result URL from site collection

Modern Sharepoint search page to use default Search settings page result URL from site collection so that results can go to enterpise search - search center page /search

Thank you for your answer! The default behavior when you search from a site, is that you get results from that site. You can change the scope to be all of SharePoint by clicking the SharePoint link that’s directly above the search box on the search results page. After changing the scope you’ll also see results from your on-premises content that has been pushed to the Office 365 index.
We’re thinking about whether this default behavior should be different, and are interested in hearing what people think about this.

  9. Enhance the search filtering options and customisations

The Modern UI search results page is missing filtering options available in "Classic" mode. In addition, there is no way to add custom filtering options, which is also available in "Classic".

The default "Classic" filtering options allow users to filter upon author, modified date and result type, with the possibility to add other "default" columns to the filtering options. Only modified date is available in the Modern UI (File type is also available for files).

"Classic" mode provides the ability to add filtering options, based upon custom columns. The Modern UI does not provide the ability to add custom columns…

  10. Search page to include the document preview ellipses

I would like to add the ellipses that opens the options to a document as they do from a library, from the search center page where the items can be searched. This need came up when looking for an easier way to access a workflow for a content type, which made sense to find all the items to run the workflow by using search. At this time, the ellipses does not show for documents from the search center.

  11. Support for page query variables in the REST API

Site and user query variables work well in the REST API but Page variables like {Page.URL} or {Page.<FieldName>} doesn't.
Please add support for Page query variables in the REST API.

  13. External users access to use People Search in O365

We have B2B external users in SharePoint Online that would need to use our people search-based corporate directory. This has been working before but recently external users have been seeing only "nothing found" view.

  14. Make link and quick link labels searchable

Although SharePoint allows you to search the entire site, it does not appear to bring back links in the search results. It would be nice to have the ability to enable link labels to be indexed and returned in the search results.

  16. Open file location in modern search

Sharepoint search desperately needs the equivalents of Windows' "Open file location". It's fantastic that sharepoint search shows the path of files found in Sites, but sometimes I want to see the folder the file is in, not the file itself. Surely an easy thing to implement?

    Thanks

This article, https://support.office.com/en-us/article/What-s-new-in-search-in-Office-365-b81ab573-ec9c-4aa9-a369-b3c630f878a7, gives an overview of the search user interface and points out where to click to go to the site or folder a file is in. If you click the site link, you’ll be taken to the folder that the file is in on that site.

Let us know if this doesn’t cover what you’d like to do, or if you have ideas for making the experience even better.

  17. Enable crawling file contents with no extension in URL when the Content-Type is properly set

    [Content Source Type: Web site]
Files even with no extension in URL (like "http://xxxx.com/files/12345") should be crawled successfully when the Content-Type in the HTTP response header is properly set.

When we crawl (docx, xlsx, pptx, pdf) files which include no extension in URL, the following crawl log was output and failed to identify the file format.
"The filtering process could not load the item. This is possibly caused by an unrecognized item format or item corruption."
The same result is obtained when the Content-Type in the HTTP response header is properly set.

In the Diagnostic logging, we can…

  18. Remove osssearchresults.aspx / WSS Search

Since WSS is an SKU is dead, can you remove the WSS Search results page?
Currently it appears to be the default option which causes a lot of grief.

  20. More ADA / Screen Reader Context on the Search Page

When using a screen reader and navigating from the SharePoint search page to another page and back to the search page the SharePoint search page does not read out which result source (All, Sites, Files, People, or News) that it is currently on and it has caused come confusion.

If we could add more context for what exactly a user has on the search page that would be very much appreciated. If you need help in testing usability / function of the page please feel free to reach out.

    Thank you.
