SharePoint search should return the file path for image files in document libraries
When a search result is returned for an image file (png, jpg, gif etc..) stored in a document library, it returns the dispform.aspx page for the item, and not the path to the file.
This is counterintuitive to end users, and should be resolved to better harmonize with the way modern views render images and documents stored on the same location.

I strongly agree with this. Spent a lot of time searching for a solution to this issue and I have not been able to discover a workaround.

I found out that SharePoint Search doesn't consider .jpg files as images as it does open .png and .jpeg file extensions as images, but not .jpg

To make matters worse, when the library is set to modern experience, it's impossible to click on the filename in dispform.aspx to get to the image. Instead, SharePoint gives you the option to edit the filename. The only apparent way to get to the file itself is to hack the URL, or go into the hosting library and locate it there. Blachch!!
