  1. Partial word search by default (no requirement for wildcard)

    I worked with Microsoft support to create a new search scope that included the wildcard for every entry at the top level site. We applied this template as the default and it works when searching at the top level site. However, it does not apply when searching within a Document library that resides at the same level as the parent. Ultimately, we do not want to require a wildcard for every partial search. If someone wants to find instructions in our library for GoToMeeting they should be able to find it by simply entering Goto.

    • Show search results for pages under Websites (or pages) not under files in Modern SharePoint Search

      When users search for pages in modern search (via SharePoint Home or on Communication/Team Site) they will find pages under files. Most users don't know that SharePoint pages are actually .aspx files. Files for them are Office documents, PDFs or pictures, but NOT pages.

      Please make it easier for users to distinguish those content types. A possible solution could be to include pages in the websites results (for users sites are sites, not site collections and pages). You could als provide a filter under websites results for site collections and pages.

      • Basic icons don't show up properly in Search results

        Icons like ZIP or even MSG don't show up properly in Search Results. Could you please add them to the result templates ?

              • If the content of the file cannot be indexed, the file still should be findable using its metadata (eg site columns)

                In specific cases the crawling cannot crawl the contents of a file (eg specific pdfs while they open fine in PDF readers). Current behavior in SPO and in HCSSA is that such files are not indexed at all; not even by its metadata outside the file (such as title, columns). My suggestion is that in case files cannot be indexed on its contents, it still gets indexed based on its metadata.

                  • The customer want sort the search results by drop box

                    The customer want sort the search results by drop box ,but there is not this function on SharePoint Online team site search results page.
                    Because the search results page(osssearchresults.aspx) can not be edited.
                    The customer is feeling inconvenience for that and hopes add this function to the seach results page(osssearchresults.aspx).

                    • Please include fuzzy search results in the results set on words not just names.

                      This is included for People Search but not on normal words.
                      For example if I searched for Canadien I want the ability to include Canadian within the results set. Without having the engine to learn these over a period of time with Did you mean results.

                      • All columns on a list should be searchable

                        All columns on a list should be searchable without having to manually configured Managed/Crawled properties in Central Administration with the option of removing the column from the index as is the current behavior. In particular, the list searchbox that is available on the list view itself should be able to return data from the list without having to make a column a Site Column.

                        • More frequent refresh / sync or manual refresh / sync option for content search query web part

                          In Office 365 SharePoint Online we currently use a content search query web part to display specific SharePoint sites in a list to certain users depending on the permissions they have on specific sites.

                          We have had confirmation from Microsoft that the refresh job runs every 24 hours, however sometimes it can be a shorter length of time.

                          As we reply quite heavily on this function, it would be brilliant if we can change the schedule / time of when the refresh runs (more frequent) or manually run it if required.

                          • Word Extraction on SharePoint Online

                            It would be very beneficial, to be able to use word extraction in SharePoint Online, i.e. be able to supply your own custom dictionary, used to extract certain words from search for use in e.g. refiners.

                            • Crawling each HNSC using separate content source

                              Now only possibility is to set root web as content source if you want to crawl HNSC.
                              It's very inconvenient if you have few big HNSCs and want to crawl them separately.

                              • Add IndexedProperties on ListItem level

                                Currently you can only add indexed properties on Site, Web, List or Folder level - I suggest you to add the same on ListItem level.

                                Reason:
                                If you want to enrich items with additional metadata you have to use list columns or content enrichment (not available with SPO or with hybrid cloud search service).
                                Another option would be to add "normal" columns to the items (and maybe hide them from editview) and rely on the normal indexing - for a large scenario this is simply not possible.

                                Indexing of the propertybag would greatly simplify this.

                                • Actionable query logs for zero hits

                                  Query logs should be actionable. When reviewing a query log for search terms that result in 0 hits, we need should have the ability to add a synonym to fix the 0 result.

                                  Use cases:
                                  E.g. assume that the zero hits query log is sorted by frequency. And at the top you have:

                                  monthly report power point

                                  As an admin I should have the possibility to add a synonym here. To map power point -> powerpoint, ppt ,pptx, presentation, ...

                                    The Modern UI search results page is missing filtering options available in "Classic" mode. In addition, there is no way to add custom filtering options, which is also available in "Classic".

                                    The default "Classic" filtering options allow users to filter upon author, modified date and result type, with the possibility to add other "default" columns to the filtering options. Only modified date is available in the Modern UI (File type is also available for files).

                                    "Classic" mode provides the ability to add filtering options, based upon custom columns. The Modern UI does not provide the ability to add custom columns…

                                      In SPO, you allow only small amounts of items to be seen in a search.

                                      I need to be able to see more than 100 or move in 20s during searches.
                                      We need options for like 500, 1000, or 2000 for datasets. I have a powerful machine and I need to be more productive.

                                      Here's an example. US Treasury uses SP but look at how painful it is to use the tools, https://www.treasury.gov/initiatives/financial-stability/reports/Pages/reports.aspx

                                        • Sharepoint should have column that mimics Windows Explorer column labeled "Title".

                                          Windows Explorer has optional column "Title". Regardless of filetype metadata "Title" can be edited and associated with files. This "Title" is very important in identifying files which may have coded filenames. I am surprised that SharePoint does not have an easy answer for extracting Windows Explorer metadata such as "Title".
