File name checks
Would it be possible for a library to check for file names ACROSS ALL FOLDERS and DOCUMENT SETS, so that there are no files anywhere in the library with the same file name?
Currently you can have, for example, two documents of the same name in different folders/document sets even though they are in one same library.
This will prevent files from having the same name within a library regardless they are saved in folders, sub folders, or document sets.
We have a few Document Sets in our library. I think it might be easy if I give you an example. Let's say there is a document set called "Olympics" and there is a file called "Rio 2016" within that doc set. Then someone uploads a new document into the library and names it "Rio 2016". What we realised was that you can still upload this new document "Rio 2016" into the library (or into another doc set) even though there is another file of the same name already in the library (but in the different doc set). I suppose what we would like is no duplication of any file name within the same library, regardless which doc set it is saved. So, when a new document is uploaded, SP checks for the file name within the entire library and determines whether there is a file with the same name.
Hope I'm making sense...
Can you provide business justification for this requirement. Currently libraries and folders operate in a manner that reflects fileshares/folders and this was a deliberate design decision to maintain familiarity with people's working practices. making a change like this would be significantly disruptive so we would need solid justification for it.
