When receiving user requests just accepting it the fast way gives the user the "Edit" status, but my SP (and I believe not just mine) is a repository of information that I want to be edited by just few people and accessible to read for many people. By making "view only" as an electable default status when accepting a request it saves time (as I won't have to open the single request and modify the status from edit to view only) and especially it will make it less risky (I don't want to give edit permission by mistake to someone who should not be able to modify the official content on my SP).

Yes, please make the default VIEW-only (not read only or the current edit permission) for sharing.
