Essentially: Adding REST Endpoints to Word Automation Service and also bringing it to SPO would do it!

Thank you for your feedback! Just letting you know that we absolutely have this in our backlog, but unfortunately this currently is not included in our short term engineering tasks. We absolutely understand the request and seeing vote counts around this, will help to further prioritize this work for next sprints.
Foundation is dead. But O365 really should have that feature parity
Ok, good to read that MSFT made that happen. Though: Does the Solution file being on Github mean I would not get any Premier Support for that case in case I'd need some? (for FIM scenarios, as powerful as they were sometimes that was not avoidable)

Giving that further support: It's ridiculous to see MSFT with Edge now has a browser which is to modern for products being in either evergreen mode or having support until well into the 2020s.
As shared at Ignite 2017 “hub sites” will include a configurable cross-site navigation control. You can check out that session here: https://myignite.microsoft.com/videos/53858
Additionally, there are several SPFx examples (https://github.com/SharePoint/sp-dev-fx-extensions/tree/master/samples) that can be leveraged to build out custom application customizers to support cross-site navigation scenarios.
This is really a bummer when you try to build a bigger site w/o custom navigation (which is what MSFT is wanting us to get away from, right? So they should fix this). Especially that you can synch the labels of pinned terms, but not their URL is not synched is just half-baked
