    RE: Alan's comment below
While we can hide those columns in a view, that won't keep users from accidentally changing those fields in the details/properties.

This is often even more problematic because often those field values trigger workflows.

If we had the ability to control column access via permissions, we wouldn't have to worry about people "staying in their lane".

We've created documents where one audience needs to fill out the top portion, but the bottom is for another group (e.g. security, HR, etc). While we can hide those columns in a view, that won't keep users from accidentally changing those fields in the details/properties.

When the top nav has a lot of content, the search box can get pushed far to the right (sometimes pat the margins of the rest of the page content, so users don't think to keep scrolling right).

We have separate site collections for each division. Overlaying a calendar of organization-wide events (holidays, benefits enrollment periods, certification deadlines, etc) would be fantastic.

    Microsoft,
See the following suggestion, which is tangentially related, and has a lot of support (demonstrating this is a feature people would be interested in):

It could be displayed in the site collection properties dialog that pops up when you click a site collection URL in the SharePoint Admin center in O365.

It's even more problematic when you are cloud-based (O365 ONLY, no hybrid or on-prem) and something deleted in SPD doesn't go to either the site recycle bin or the user's local recycle bin.
