Jay that's what they are doing :P. I don't think we have much longer to wait for that to come out.

They have that update coming with the file tab replacement that probabaly will fix this cause they are showing also which folders are used as channels inside teams.

Providing the ability to scale from renaming individual sites, to all sites within a SharePoint tenant, while ensuring a consistent user experience across M365 is a complex problem. We have been working hard on this long-awaited feature and are currently validating this with a subset of customers in a closed (no longer accepting nominations) Private Preview Program. As we consolidate their feedback, we will provide another update in the next few months.

They release things when they are done, the conferences are usually when things go public, or things about to go public. 99% of the time when they annouce things, it's annoucing a beta, or something but usually never hey, look this is going live today!

I've been saying that for awhile. Big items like this people need to just know we have to wait for conferences to get anything on them :)

Anubhav Saxena you need to take your question to the community forums. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com This is not the place for that.

You'll probably hear more at the Share Point conference if I had to guess.

Seriously? They said they are starting work on it, once they have more information they can share we will know. This isn't going to be some quick and easy fix. My guess is we probably will hear about it at the SharePoint conference in May, so don't get your hopes up for something in the next few weeks or months.

Scott, they just changed this to working on it last week.

Luis you can already rename your sites onprem. Unless there is something new in the SP2016 that doens't allow it, but in 2013 you can.

Mathiieu, You can already change Tenant name, the issue has been the URL's

That is irrelevant to this request. That's a teams problem not a URL renaming issue.

They have redirects with this new Geo location data move stuff, so they "should" be able to let us set URLs you would think soon using same tech.

Pretty sure you can rename site collection paths with the right tool or powershell. You just can’t change the domain section of the URL

Soooo, I noticed at ignite, with geo location, that URL's for sharing links etc. actually change..... Hoping they can use whatever they are using for that, to let us rename URL's to onedrive/sharepoint, because in the demo's we saw, it's like tenant-location.sharepoint.com and it redirects existing URL items to it as well.

Hi all, asked this in the Microsoft Admin AMA today, and got a response, https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Office-365-Admin-AMA/SharePoint-Online-OneDrive-URL-Rename/m-p/96395#M173

Still nothing to share unfortunately but they are starting to look at it's feasibility!

Umm, this doesn't have anything to do with Teams. By the way you can rename channels in Teams, just click the ellipsis and edit channel, Change name.

Ditto, seems easy but probably isn't or we would have it, but the problem is all the other ties in's to SharePoint where they got stuck making this hard to do. Groups, Yammer, Teams, Video, OneDrive all links back into SharePoint...... cName support would solve this as well.

Someone else in my org had the name I wanted to use when I set this up. Microsoft wouldn't tell me who had it etc. if I had known I could have gone 2 rows over and had the name transferred but instead opted for a longer alternative. Now org renamed and the name I couldn't get is the one name we go by now. Very frustrating, I'm about to migrate sharepoint and I'm waiting for my CEO to throw a fit about our URL. Please for the love of god implement this. Can't be that hard to just support both applications urls. Pretty sure on prem sharepoint can do it. If we could have multiples that would be ideal then old links work and new links going forward using primary URL would start being used in notifications. Sharing links etc. *praying*. I think you would have even more people voting for this if they knew where to go.
