Also it would be great to be able to read/write the content of a content editor webpart easily from csom/REST API's. It's not possible right now (only webpartpages.asmx but requires credentials)

it's a nightmare in terms of performances, reliability and HA. Plus the SharePoint team is the last one at Microsoft to support it. Replacing it by something more viable and "future proof" like Redis would be great.
Providing supported cache access to an isolated partition to third party devs would be great too
