Another one of MS's "genius" ideas that have no founding in actual usability for end users and AGAIN no central way to turn it off.

This is because the Site Pages library still uses Content Types. The other 'New' menus on the start page and from other pages don't, they use the new page templates functionality.
Reading between the lines, if MS haven't implemented a consistent 'New' menu option for pages in the Site Pages library it's maybe because content types for site pages are going to go away or change dramatically in how they are managed via the new Content Service admin center.

This is likely to be the best option in the short term for deploying page templates: https://mattipaukkonen.com/2020/07/02/distribute-sharepoint-page-templates-with-pnp-powershell-and-provisioning-templates/, then inform your users to not create pages from the library menu.

Stop creating subsites as per the principle of modern SharePoint architecture. Problem solved.

Thanks for the feedback. It would helpful to know the specific scenarios where users aren’t able to get to the content they need.

We’ve observed that with sites shared publicly, or sites attached to a public Office365 Group, it’s not very meaningful to see every SharePoint Site a user can access, because there could be a huge number, most of which the user isn’t interested in.

Is the focus here more like “show me all sites I’m a member of”?

There is one comment that says search isn’t working, please open a support ticket for that.

This is hugely important for Google Analytics Connector on Communication Sites as part of an intranet solution! Far less useful om a Team Site.
